2012 HTM Forum Gunhammer: *Commitment/Sign-up* thread

Depending on how this goes, there may be more possible sprint runs. I would want them all to be made with the forum's input, so they can be sort of like the "people's" knife.

I can see this ending with me having no money, and sleeping outside the DDR factory to get my new ones as quickly as possible. Or sleeping there because I have no home because I've purchased too many sprint runs.

That's all very Hitler sounding, but a good idea. I wish everything were designed this way.

I know this may sound a little petty but I think 1 of 25/50/75/100 sounds more exclusive than 1 of 19/31/52/67.

When it's a common limited edition number, it sounds more like you were one of the select few who got in on such a low production run. When you use whatever number you want, it sounds like, 'oh only 19/31/52/67 people must have wanted this knife.

Think of how Ferrari does it. When they are developing a special vehicle, they get an idea of how many they think they can sell and then build one less than that number. It just helps add to the exclusivity of it.

In the knife world, I think William Henry is probably the closest comparison. They go all the way down from like x of 500 to x of 25 to x of 2 to one of a kinds.

A manual Torpedo, please

Not picky about the serial number, but prefer one of the first batch.

il take one if shiping to canada thankyou
bowie/ bearing system please

Sign me up for one, bowie blade, maxglide. What's the expected wait time? Just so I know how much I need to save up....

(#16 if available, otherwise lowest number still available?)
Thanks, guys. I just added all three of you to the list in the order that you signed up.

And with that, we're officially at 25 commitments (counting me)!

Just to add my two cents on the two issues that have been discussed over the last couple pages, for the reasons others have mentioned, I agree that the number produced should end in '5' or '0' (25, 30, etc.).

As for the use vs. safe question, I'll definitely be using mine. No point in getting a crazy wear-resistant steel like S90V if you're not going to use it!

I'm still do torn between the two blade shaped.. I'm going back and forth now

It's a tough one for sure. The torpedo has a much higher grind (by nearly .25"), so it's likely a better slicer. The bowie wins IMO on aesthetics. I'm going for performance though. I want a new torpedo :) Maybe the solution is to buy one of each.

I will never use this hard, just light tasks, until I get my Wicked Edge.. I just wish I could see the both of them to pick one out. :( I come from Spydercos (lots of PM2's, etc. so I like those blades but idk what to do for this knife.

How about this, stupid question Im Sure. But what shape will take and hold a stupid sharp edge?

They both will. That being said, my torpedo feels sharper to me. Even though the bowie is better steel and still shaving sharp, it doesn't breeze through cardboard and such the way the torpedo does. I don't know how much that has to do with the fact that it's much thicker stock though. Maybe Hark has one of each of the newest models?

This is tempting, as Ive gone full swing on my knife habit. The money isnt an issue as it would be my first custom, but what kind of time frame are we looking at? I may not have 300+ sitting around in a few months ..........

One thing that's worth noting is that the curve in the front is nearly identical. So the main difference in performance will be blade grind height. In the next two photos, I've got them stacked on top of each other so you can see how close it is. One pic is taken from an angle.

The other thing to remark on is the tip. The bowie seems to have slightly better penetration power.

I think, now that we are at 25, we should start a wait list. I'm not planning on people dropping out but you never know. If we get a full 5 people on the wait list then maybe we can make the order for 30.

That makes sense to me. The important thing is that everyone who wants one can get one (within a reasonable amount of orders). I think that's what makes a forum sprint like this so cool and unifying. But too be honest if it were me and I chimed in at #26 I would be sad if I couldn't get one, but I am getting ahead of myself.

Still not sure which blade shape. I am leaning towards Bowie as it has style for days but the Torpedo has a classic shape and ffg. Dang this is tough. The purist in me wants to ffg torpedo but the punk in me loves a Bowie with a recurve. I know its a subtle difference, but everything about this knife is perfect for me so the blade shape must also be.

+1 I'm really a fan of having one of such a small run.
