2012 HTM Forum Gunhammer: *Commitment/Sign-up* thread

I was going to pull the trigger on one of these, but I cant afford it really. New car and pistol and a fussy gf make for a poor me. I cant wait to see pics when people start getting them, they look great !

As far as blade grinds go, I think the Bowie and Torpedo blades that crimsonfalcon posted are from two different generations. The new HTM Gunhammer Torpedos that I saw at SHOT Show back in January don't have the high flat grind of the older HTM Gunhammers. The height of the grind is now comparable to that on the current Bowie blade -- the one in crimsonfalcon's post -- and the blade stock of all HTM Gunhammers is a bit thicker. I was carrying my TNK exclusive HTM Gunhammer Torpedo at the show -- the same knife crimsonfalcon has except that mine is the DLC coated version -- and was able to compare it side-by-side with the newer version just to be sure regarding the stock thickness. (I didn't take any pictures, unfortunately.) So the current Torpedo blade -- with updated grind -- should offer comparable slicing performance to the current Bowie blade.

The knives in TriviaMonster's post are all older HTM Gunhammers. The bottom two are really old, in fact, since they have the old-style machining pattern on the handles!

Just wanted to clarify that to make sure that people's blade choices aren't made on the basis of information/pictures that don't reflect the current HTM knives.

I am for getting the first twenty five locked in and going. A standby or waiting list in batches of 5 is cool, but at some point a firm cut off point has to be set for the good of those who committed early.
Best...

Neuron, you just need to tell us which is BEST you can't expect us to decide. ;-)

Agreed.

I thought that bottom picture looked a little funny! Are torpedos still recurve blades? But now they aren't ffg? This is complicated. Well, was. Bowie for me!

I don't think the Torpedo has ever had any recurve -- my guess is that that's just be a weird picture that makes it appear to. But in any event, it doesn't have one now. The HTM GH Bowie has had a recurve throughout its various iterations (including the current one).

Didn't I read somewhere that the Bowie's may be dropped in the future as the " Torpedo can do everything that the Bowie does and has a stronger tip."

I spoke with "someone" at the shop who said the Torepedo did in fact have a stronger tip. That being said, I am still going with a Bowie.
Best...

Still torpedo for me. Hopefully we'll hear tomorrow we can place orders, unless someone else signs up in the meantime.

Stronger tip or not, bowies look more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes. The torpedo, to me anyway, is like a wannabe bowie.

Yeah any word on how that'll work? Are we gonna owe the balance now, or when they are deliverable? I could probably swing a downpayment...

I think a down payment is a good idea, would discourage people from backing out. It's a leap of faith for the maker already, it wouldn't be fair to him and others involved if they went through all the trouble to organize and execute the construction of these folders only to end up with people backing out in the end. D:

Dunno about everyone else, but I'd be in for a 1/2 payment now (when the order becomes official with blade and pivot selections), 1/2 when completed (at time of shipping) situation.

I can't afford the bump to $360....

But life's too short. I have participated through the process, can't wuss out now!

I kept thinking I want 22. I look and it's the last slot. I'll take that as a sign. I'm in.

#22 with glidemaxx torpedo gamble green! I second the 50% deposit as a strong show of faith for Darrell together the ball rolling.

Yeah, or even closer to like $125 ish. But if I have to do the full half I will.

Maybe if enough people are wanting a smaller down payment, a 1/3 now, 2/3 later could be done. That would be $120 then $240.
I'd be in for either really.

I mean... I'm getting it regardless, it would just be easier on the marital front to have 1/3 up front.....
