I respect your opinion. That being said, PURPLE is NOT an odd color. It can actually be a neutral color in the proper shade, and very striking. Purple is a majestic color, the color of Kings, not a feminine color.

The color purple is specifically associated with royalty and the nobility, creating an impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance. Purple has power. It has a richness and quality to it that demands respect. Purple is ambitious and self-assured, the leader. Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.

Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Purple is the color most favored by artists.

Purple is also the color of Barney The Dinosaur ... ;)

Now if we're talkin' African Purple Heart Wood, I'm in for that. :)

I for one have always wanted to experience Rams horn...only for one reason, and that is because the man himself...Mr Ed Fowler rates it so high, and that is where I hold in regard this person...so I have wanted to experience Rams Horn scales on a knife of my very own...so if this is to be..then please my friends...lets bring this experience on for a lot of us!
What I have read Mr Fowlers experience with this material...I want to at least get just a taste!

A 4" toothpick would be a great choice. In 1095 or 440C with GEC's plum bone would satisfy the purple knife fans and I'd personally be good with that. But I would think in ram's horn might be even nicer. Of course, sooner or later a wharncliff cult fan would suggest a toothpick with a wharncliff blade. Then I'd be out for sure. I do recall a whole bunch of pages ago it was mentioned that the idea was to come up with something not generally mass produced, either a new style or a pattern not seen in a while. That would be fine with me as long as the idea is a pocket friendly usable everyday knife. I really don't need to carry a bottle opener around, and I don't remember the last time I was lost in the desert or on an ice flow with no other way to poke a hole in leather than the awl on my pocket knife. Anything with a medium sized single blade or single spring double blade (so it's thin enough for comfortable pocket carry) with usable blade shapes (spear or clip/pen, spear or clip/sheepsfoot, spear or clip/spey) would suit me, but to each his own, and I guess that's what we're trying to figure out here. Did I mention a wharncliff anything (main or secondary) would put me off? And I own a tool box as well as an original Leatherman that goes to work with me every night so I really don't need to have "tools" other than a blade or a couple blades on my pocket knife. For the money a semi-custom like one being discussed here is going to cost, I'd really prefer something I would drop in my pocket every day for quite a long time. I realize some of us are collectors for collectings sake, but I for one, have enough top drawers queens and would like something I would actually use. Something that would take the place of the baby sunfish, 4" toothpick or Queen Country Cousin (admittedly not all that thin, but IMO eminently usable) that I currently choose between when getting dressed.

Purple would be fine as long as it's a really DARK purple... you know... so dark that it looks like a dark brown, a dark crimson or maroon, or a navy blue, or even black (without a hint of purple visible).:p:D

So there it is! A GEC made Saddlehorn with natural rams horn scales and standard BF tang stamp! :D

(I love it when a plan comes together and everyone agrees.... even though some may not have realized it yet.:p:) )

I really am liking the idea of Ram's horn. I'll put in a plug for the Lanny's Clip again. If Tony can convince Case to use this as the next Bose pattern, I'd love to be in the first run group with custom scales. I'm sure this model would end up costing too much, though. I can dream...

So it sounds like we can all agree on some configuration of the Sowbelly..... great start! :D

Now that that is all sorted out, how about some sweet looking black micarta and an oversize shield

So what the popular choice here?
A toe-nailed-sowbelly-Wharncliffe-whittler pattern, ram horn scales with a purple shield??:p

barney the dinosaur! yeeesh. another reason NOT to have purple.
I personally don't mind some of the purples i"ve seen here. Blue bone for me would be somewhat more dignified.
Rams horn would be good also . BUT purple ramshorn
is uber-gay.

Hi nice knife .Say! what are those scales made of?
purpleramshorn-yes they're gorgeous aren't they!.

Yes its the international colour for "gay pride".
Further, when man is said to be "good with colours"
it is a euphemism for the fact he's gay.
That does not mean however that if we were to get red ramshorn we could be labelled as communists.
Would the worlds gayest knife be a Queen country cousin with purple ramshorn scales?
i don't care! i'm still getting one whatever is the final decision.
sorry had a late night at work .

Haters gonna hate.

sigh.

Many of you men just don't realize how uber COOL the right shade of purple could contribute to the perfect 2012 BF knife. Thank you to those who have been open minded enough to at least CONSIDER the possibility of a purple handle.

I had a thought based on the "What traditional knife are you totin..." thread - a single blade sowbelly would make a great forum knife. Here's the picture of my sowbelly experiment:

Yeah if I had a knife like that I'd be dying the bone another color lol..GEC's dark purple colored bone is alright though.

Can ramshorn be dyed purple?

Oh no you dint!

OK, I want to chime in here. I worked the spread sheet for all the knives in 2011. We had multiple purchases from some which took extra effort to log and such, and keep straight. I had more than 5 people change their addresses, which is also fine but adds work to make sure you got it all right. At the end of the year, it is on the committee to get it right, and make everyone as happy as possible. This talk about multiple scale selections would be a nightmare for anyone to deal with. Also, we paid for the tang stamp so that should be a no brainer that we use it til the end of the century, as it was designed and intended. We need at least a medium sized knife to fit the stamp, and so be it. Purple is not what I would call a traditional knife color. I would be sad if we ended up with purple scales.
