2012 Traditional Forum Knife - let's begin discussion.

Everyone keeps on mentioning the importance of the bladeforum tang stamp.

I really don't see the big deal here.

We can always incorporate at least a B and F on a small tang. We can create something to signify bladeforums in a tang stamp when there is not enough room for the current stamp.

This becomes an issue to me, when people rule out an entire pattern/ size, just because we cant have the same tang stamp...

We have to ask ourselves what is more important to us, our knives, or our tang stamps!:p

Lets not let this little tang stamp limit our pattern choices!

Move on to colors? That won't be necessary, as PURPLE is the only color. No vote required. :D

About this,
GEC routinely makes as few as 25 knives (maybe less?) in a particular scale material when they produce a run of any pattern. Assuming we use them again why not offer 2,3, or 4 different scale materials to choose from?
Assuming Purple had enough takers I see no real reason they couldn't accommodate that, and a few others.

Imagine if this years knife had been available in jigged bone, ebony, stag, and acrylic. Who knows how many would have sold.

Probably none if we'd known in advance how lousy the caplifter would be!!!

Just kidding but that is a good point about multiple scale choice especially if GEC is picked as the vendor.

For sure we could do that but generating a new stamp adds time and incurs additional costs... not to mention the back and forth to typeset/design and approve the stamp also the stamp acts as a dating system...
IMHO it would have to be a really good reason/pattern to throw that out

Gene is correct. We spent money getting that stamp made and the goal was to make it a tradition. It will be up to the new committee to make this decision, but my thought on this is to respect the choices the past committees made and continue that forward until the cycle runs its course.

I won't buy a purple knife. I'll do any pattern (because I like them all), but I have no desire to own an oddly-colored handle and draw the line at that.

As far as multiple scale choices...that's all well and good...but it adds another level of work to the BF committee. It's hard enough to keep track of orders/payments/etc. But adding different knives for different folks....that wouldn't be my choice. Sure it might not seem like much work, but Andy spent enough time just sticking knives into boxes. The effort would be doubled or tripled if someone had to go through each tube/box and make sure each knife was going to its proper home.

Anyways, just my thoughts.

Sorry I was too subtle for you. I vote against another dinky knife. Give me something big enough to use without having cramps in my hand. The existing Bladeforums tang stamp will easily fit on anything that qualifies.

I respect your opinion. That being said, PURPLE is NOT an odd color. It can actually be a neutral color in the proper shade, and very striking. Purple is a majestic color, the color of Kings, not a feminine color.

The color purple is specifically associated with royalty and the nobility, creating an impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance. Purple has power. It has a richness and quality to it that demands respect. Purple is ambitious and self-assured, the leader. Purple is the color of good judgment. It is the color of people seeking spiritual fulfillment. It is said if you surround yourself with purple you will have peace of mind. Purple is a good color to use in meditation.

Purple has been used to symbolize magic and mystery, as well as royalty. Being the combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, purple is believed to be the ideal color. Purple is the color most favored by artists.

Well, if the small/medium Texas jack is too small, then go with the large one (e.g., Case 6292). - Ed J

Andy raised the bar on shipping these out to be sure.
He didn't just have to stick them in boxes though. He chose to wait until he had the knives to procure the boxes, assemble them, make the shipping labels, buy the postage, and put the knives in the boxes.
The time saved by preparing the boxes, packing materials, labels and postage in the months between receiving the orders and receiving the knives would make multiple versions easier to manage.

And yes, I will back that up by offering to take the responsibility for shipping the next one (assuming there is one) myself if that is agreeable to whoever organizes it.

FWIW, I think I am even less inclined than you to buy a Purple knife, but to each there own and all that. If put to a vote who knows, maybe there are more closet weird knife fans than we think?
I doubt it, but I was just trying to be nice.

I would also like it if we continued the tradition of using the stamp.

That shield would look really good on a sowbelly. :D

It's also the color of the "people eater". ;) I'm just teasing but my personal preference is that we use a color/material/jig-style that was used on the oldies.

Both, an average looking tang stamp turns me off certain knives...the BF stamp we are using now is date orientated and I think it adds a lot of charm to the entire package.

I dont need any more tiny fob knife sized blades.

yeah An its also the international colour of the gay movement. not that theres anything wrong with that.
