2013 AKI - A Quick Update

Ok, I tried again and it will not work for me. I even converted the MS Word file where I wrrote my report to a pure text (.txt) document with no formatting, and this website will not even let me paste THAT here without barfing. I think I will now go find the appropriate forum here to post a rant about this website's architecture and service, and then I am going to post a doozy.

I have a plan B and a plan C for getting this report posted here, and I guess it is time to pursue those.

Stay tuned . . .

Ken has sent me his document, and I'm going to post it later. He writes with nice, vivid detail and has a lot to say.

His photos he has already apologized for, and I'm going to do that again for him. I've seen better.... ;)

I'm Plan B unless Ken gets to it first! :D

I've seen better.... ;)

Yeah, but have you seen WORSE?

I hate cell phone cameras. I am a lousy photographer anyway, so putting a cell phone camera in my hand and expecting a decent picture is like giving an abacus to a monkey and expecting the monkey to use it find the cosine of 53 degrees.

I have a Canon S100, but - as I lamented above - I left it on the kitchen counter in my early morning haste to make my flight. I could have taken decent pictures with that one. Not even close to Coop's league, of course, but at least tolerable. These are not tolerable; they are horrible.

I would love to see what Fuegen, Hancock, Walker and Delana brought.

I have lots of (bad) pictures of what Fuegen and Hancock brought and some fairly detailed descriptions. I have no pictures for Dellana and Walker. I did not stop by Dellana's table, and other than a couple of quick glances as I passed by I did not see enough to describe her knives in any detail. Sorry. I did see Walker's three knives and will try to describe them. I will say up front that he did not bring one of his "zipper blades" that I always enjoy seeing. There were several other makers whose work I only saw briefly.

If you think about it, there were 24 makers and maybe 150 knives and the show lasts three hours. If you are doing NO bidding or dropping for knives, no conversations with other collectors, no eating, no drinking, . . . that gives you about 7 minutes per table and maybe a minute or so per knife. But I was bidding, and I did have several conversations with other collectors (including phone calls during the show), and I was eating and drinking, and taking notes, and trying to take pictures . . . . Furthermore, there were a bunch of other collectors crowding around tables and picking up pieces and talking with the collectors at the same times I wanted to do all of those things and take pictures. If you have not been there, you cannot imagine how quickly the three hours passes. And personally, since I was bidding and dropping for knives, I needed some quiet reflection time to think about what I wanted to drop for and bid on before the clock struck 1 PM and the knives all turned to pumpkins.

So it just did not leave a lot of time for me to be an unpaid correspondent. Sorry, I did the best I could! But hey, I promise that you will all get your money's worth.:D

Ken,
I thank you for your effort, I know what you mean about the time going by so fast. But anything you share with us is certainly appreciated.

Well, it looks like Coop is having the same problems that I have been experiencing. I even tried typing it in by hand, but once I get past a certain number of words, the website just gives up and will not accept my post. I have several thousand posts at a couple of other collectible and special interest websites, and have never seen or experienced anything like this. In fact, I cannot ever recall having any problem posting anything at any other website ever. And that includes literally more than 20000 Internet posts. Then again, I have experienced a lot of service disconnections and interruptions at this website that I never see anywhere else either. So maybe I am wrong, in which case i will apologize, but I am pretty sure that it is not just me.

Sorry, but I give up. When they bring the technology and service standards for this website up to circa 1999 industry standards, maybe someone can shoot me an e-mail to let me know, and I will try again.

Hello Ken,
I left a message on your BF page so if you want I can send you the photos of my AKI knives.
The show it was Great by the way!!!

Maybe post it somewhere else and then link us to it?

What a nice offer! And to think, you did that without even knowing what I had to say about your knives in my review. So, I will post the first two sentences I had already written about your table . . .

"Emmanuel was one of the bright and blazing stars of this show. What a talent!" Coop knows that was exactly what I had already written because he has already seen the first half of my review.

I will take you up on your offer. I will reply to your message as soon as I post this. And yes, it was a great show, and very nice to see you and your knives again.

Maybe post it somewhere else and then link us to it?

That is plan D. And I already have another place in mind. I will start on it tomorrow.

It's about 2,000 word limit/post if I remember right. I often have to break my reviews into pieces.....did you think I do that because I want to?

I'd like to read your review.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Thanks STeven. Right now I have been unable to get anything even remotely CLOSE to 2000 words. At different times, both Coop and I have been inable to paste TWO PARAGRAPHS of text here. Even when I tried typing it all by hand earlier today, the site would give me error messages after less than 200 words.

PS - just now, getting the site to load this little post took more than a minute.

PPS - I just did a word count and the entire first half of the review, which is the most that I have even tried posting, is "only" 1537 words. However I cannot even manage to post a small part of that.

Hi! Nice talking with you there.

The Dog! What a story that turned out to be. It is really an unbelievable tale, but after everything that happened, including my telephone call to the "Dog Godmother" at 6 AM PDT the next morning from the plane in San Diego . . . we did not get The Dog. For the second time in three months, we did not get The Dog. Incredible.

Take care.

That sucks - and it's probably been driving you crazy. Had no idea there was a size limit for posts, or it could just be another bad tech day for BF.

Had trouble doing the history thread posting - had to do it in bits, but not down to one line.

Thanks for posting what you have done.

I hate that this important thread is sidelined by lousy Bladeforums server problems, but that appears to be the case. I tried to break it into 200 word bites and it wouldn't post last night.

This ought to get resolved in time, but until then, we grouse. :(
