2013 AKI - A Quick Update

Well, Plan D worked. I posted the first half of my report from the 2013 AKI over at the CKCA website.

Here is the link:

If posting that link violates any rule here, I apologize in advance and if someone will let me know, I will delete it.

I hope you enjoy the report. And I am really, really, sorry that the technical problems with this website prevented me from posting it here. :(

I've had problems with this site off & on for years, but part of it is my crappy satellite connection.

I also spend time on a larger non-related site and it's completely gone at the moment, after over a month of major problems. Hackers and corrupted files. Maybe it's going around?

Wonderful, Ken. I enjoyed every word, and YES, every photo.

Your writing style is very informative and direct. Good stuff.

Looking forward to tomorrow's installment

I am posting this photo for Gray Taylor.

This is Mr. Taylor's bid up knife that Ken mentioned in an earlier post.

What a knife.

^^^ WOW! It's got twenty folding implements, and I see a little pullout that's in there. Wonderful!

(That's Eric's dreamy marble background. Only the best reside on that! :))

Gray: Outstanding!

I just got shipments in of some AKI knives from two clients. I'll post views when completed.

nice stuff Ken

Gasp
That Taylor is deserving of all the attention. A lot of gold, a lot of steel, a lot of sanding! I'd love to see some closed shots to see how it all fits together.

I love that he indexed the screws!

It's the little things like that that always gets me.

How handy, Everyone should have one of those in their toolbox.;):)

But seriously, both of these folders are absolutely amazing.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you so much for the excellent review and the photos! I wish I lived a bit closer!

It was my second AKI after 2011: extraordinary show in all details, very pleasent. Great atmosphere, nice people, great workmanship, no doupt .
The only questionable thing I've noted is that 2/3 of the pieces are bid/open bid only. It's OK, that bring good money to the maker and this is right, also when the prices increased during the last editions probably to level the dealers sale's prices but 2/3 it's too much.. that's just my mind because this system eliminate the high-middle collector from pieces like the Walkers, Steinau, Loerchner,Lake and many other justifiably rising makers. I was lucky to finally draw a Dellana's folder .. since long time a dream, but bid four or five k more than the max bid to win is fine for those lucky people but not for the majority, I think here at the future, at the attraction for new collectors , they could have to think to belong to that movement one day .......
as Swiss I could ask all of you : where is the American dream ?

I have two spare AKI catalogs. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM with your mailing address.

Wolfgang

Both have now been spoken for, I will get them into the mail on monday.
