While I think it would be problematic to make the next forum knife with multiple steels, I dont think it would be a big issue to make the next knife with wood, bone and synthetic. Say 100 of each? That would satisy alot of forumites and it if drives the cost a little highter I dont think it would be enough to be an issue.

My 2cents worth.

I've been thinking along the same lines, but keeping track of orders etc could turn into a nightmare with different scales.

Maybe not. Im just not interested in a Micarta handled traditional. Anything else is fine. I have many Micarta handled knives and I do like the material, but its like haveing a naugahide jacket if you ask me.

I have quite a few knives with micarta also, but I'm just not interested in a congress jack in micarta. Gives us more $ to spend on other knives. Who knows, we might like the knife with micarta scales. If it doesn't have bone scales, it's not the end of the world.

Bad idea... that would make me want to pick up all three  :D

Sometimes you got to try new things. Sometimes that new thing is a Ivory Micarta on a traditional pattern. I think it's going to be a good looking knife.

I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that it looks like we are going to use a carbon steel on this one. Patina looks better with a traditional handle like ebony….. still, I think this knife is going to look sweet. It’s not even a pattern I was looking for.

Im ok with bone, wood or synthetic. Maybe what they used on Case Clasics like this:

But Micarta is too "High speed Low drag" on a traditional for me.

Ivory Micarta works...no linen or Rucarta though...smooth fake Ivory look. I can live with that.

I've got a Laconico folding Nessmuk with micarta scales. Not my first choice, but then, I'm not a Nessmuk pattern fan, but it's a Laconico folder, ya know ;).

I learned to made do with it :D (I'm kidding, one heckuva nice knife).

I was really hoping for bone scales, but I'm not closing off completely to micarta. Queen made a nice congress jack, it's still out there from some dealers. If this one doesn't get bone covers, I might just order one of the Queen made congress jacks, Schatt and Morgan line I believe. No biggie.

I voted bone. Some of the GEC type smooth primitive bone would look great on a congress knife.

I assume you mean paper micarta then. I certainly think canvas micarta as some have suggested would be the wrong choice and completely clash with the overall look of this piece. I personally lean toward linen ivory so as it is shaped it would show the layers in the micarta, however aged ivory paper micarta would be nice as well. Barring being able to get aged micarta ala westinghouse, I will just leave it in the sun for a couple weeks. ;)

I had a bunch of sheets of a maroon/wine Westinghouse Micarta, I gave a few sheets to Bud Nealy a while back but I lost the other sheets it was a nice solid color, woulda looked regal on a Congress.

I am voting for synthetic, and I'm thinking specifically of white or black micarta. Bark River used a burlap micarta on some knives at one time; they looked great to me, but I don't know how that would come off on a smaller folder. Anyway, micarta would be my material of choice.

I voted for synthetic, thinking that ivory looking micarta would look nice, but if we end up with bone, appaloosa or smooth tobacco would look pretty sharp, of the maker had those options.

I don't think it's likely that we'll end up with bone Blaine but any light color micarta would probably do. I don't have any knives with micarta and am not familiar with it. Most guys seem to be stuck on micarta and that's fine but there are other synthetics too. I think delrin would be too simple/common but whatever we end up will be ok.

And that cover choice would most assuredly ensure I would not buy one- to me that looks like a cheap juvenile knife handle choice. But that is why it is a majority rule choice, and if something detracts from us buying it, another will most likely feel that the choice fills a niche in their collection. The cap lifter from 2 years ago was a deal breaker for me, I'm happy I didn't get it, and others are glad that they did. Many of us can not or choose not to afford anything that is chosen, but there is nothing wrong with waiting for what suits you best! I'm glad that it seems like my top choice is going through, even if stainless isn't chosen this time around.
