2013 BladeForums Traditional Forum Knife Pre-Order thread

We get down to ten or twelve left to get the order going and the pre-ordering stalls out? Guess everyone is waiting to see what these actually look like? If I could either justify or afford a couple more I'd jump back in, but with the apparent lack of interest no one is going to be looking for these on the secondary market and I don't need three identical $130 pocket knives.

Personally, I have dropped out this year because of the unwarranted blade length restriction of "not to exceed 3-inches" for the 2013 Forum Knife. It's bad enough that many of us have joined various knife organizations and forums to fight against arbitrary knife laws by local, state, and federal jurisdictions only to have a blade length restriction laid on us by a knife forum. My .02¢

Spark said in an earlier post in this thread that he was probably going to order 300 of this years 2013 Forum Knife. Due to the interest or lack thereof shown in this thread for the 2013 Forum Knife so far, I wouldn't think that that would be a good idea.

Lift that blade length restriction of "not to exceed 3-inches" and give it back to the manufacture for a possible redo and I'd be in again.

If I recall, the length for this years was determined by the members early in the process. Not an imposition by the forum.

The closed length of the Congress Jack that won the open poll was 3.5" - 4 1/8" - maybe 3.5" - 4". Regardless, a blade length of more than 3" could have been accommodated.

This specification: "Main blade as long as possible but no longer than 3" was imposed by someone (committee????) but not the members voting in the poll.

I'm not trying to be negative. I was only stating why I and others I have e-mailed with regarding this restriction have opted not to buy the 2013 Blade Forum Knife.

I was one of those who requested that length of blade. I would like to be able to carry and use this years forum knife, and that particular length of blade suits me. I'm sorry you're unhappy with that but it was discussed at the time.
Should the specifications change, and the blade length increase then I would have to request a refund because I would not be able to legally carry it here in the UK. Apologies Modoc, next year maybe.

On the other hand others, like me, would not have ordered one if the blade length exceeded 3". It probably balances out. Steven

ED, just curious, are you against the shorter blade length because you're interested in having as large a blade as possible, or is it just a matter of principle having any kind of "restriction" imposed on the knife? Also, I don't know there's a lack of interest in this year's Traditional Forum knife; I seem to recall the 2012 knife taking quite a while to sell out also. I'm inclined to believe that the price is a larger obstacle to sales than the blade length. I imagine that as the project nears completion and in-process pictures start appearing on the GEC website they'll be quite of bit of interest again.

I don't think we need to go into all the particulars of why someone does not want to order a knife. Doesn't matter whether it is the Forum Knife, a Rough Rider, or a custom, no one knife is going to please every knife user.

In the meantime, I've placed an order for one.

I'm unlikely to have the available funds to pre order, but am in for one for sure. Will do my best in case we're short @ cut off.

About 112 so far! Not much further needed.....I think the ordering process has gone very well considering the increasingly difficult economic situation (globally).

Thanks, Will

Speaking of the difficult economic situation(locally),I've been laid off again so even though I said I'd be in for one,I have to pass for now.:(
Sorry Spark,I hate to do it after saying I was in, :o but hopefully I'll be back to work in a couple of months & can spare the bucks then.( & they'll still be available.)
Ironically,I scored a 2012 Trapper a few days before getting the unexpected LO notice.(sweet knife BTW)

Blade length restriction specifically.

Hey, I hope everything turns out for you guys and that you get a great knife. You should be hovering at the 125 mark and should be off an running soon.

I can't fault Modoc Ed for his stand on the blade length. Politics aside (and I have to respect the political stance of Ed and anyone else who stands with him on this). For me, 3.5" or so overall length is more pocketable than a larger knife, and I don't really need more than a 3" blade on a day to day basis. I, myself, dropped out of last years knife late in the voting when it became apparent that a wharnclif blade was going to be included. And someone posted that as I said I was in up until then I should have stayed in. But I'm not going to spend money on something I have no reason to even like, much less use. I'm just getting a little excited and impatient this year, I guess. But personally, like Ed, I think that given the response to this thread 300 might well leave more than a few of these available around this time next year. By way of full disclosure though, I'm an electronic technician, not a business man. What do I know. I suggest that any of my opinions be taken with a rather large grain of salt.

There's a lot of reasons for not liking/wanting/ordering the 2013 Traditional forum knife, just like there are as many reasons to like/want/order one. To each his own.

To me it's all about being part of this exceptional community and helping to perpetuate a fine tradition. Politics aside (perceived or otherwise) that's my logic. I purchased every forum knife, with the exception of the first one. How many of them do I like? Maybe 3. To each his own.

I've got much more I'd like to say, but I'm going to keep a lid on it. The guys that put in their personal time and effort to make this happen deserve better.

Yep, I missed the first two editions, but have been in since. I had said I would not be in this year, but reconsidered when this thread opened up. Really want to thank those who have put in so much time and energy on this fine effort!. Steven

Thanks Gary, for saying what I've been thinking.
