2013 Forum knife?

Almost there Gary. Now you just need the elusive ring knife to complete the set.

I know I'm alone in this, but for once I'd like the annual BFC forum knife to be a single blade. A sodbuster with nice wooden scales, maybe yellow bone or micarta. Probably too boring for most folks though.

- Christian

I think a single blade BF 2013 traditional knife is another great idea! A sod buster with some nice wood and 01 steel would be wonderful!

I also agree with Peregrin that the 2013 traditional knife should not be the same or too similar to the previous BF knives.

Whatever the knife ends up being, can we please make it with Steel bolsters/liners/pins!

Also I wouldn't mind some 01 or D2 steel

the 2010 moose had steel bolsters i believe.
all of which influences the final cost... which it was a struggle last year to keep the knife near what people had become accustomed to, the 2012 turned out to be too pricey for this guy
the 2011 was i fear my last and my personal limit on price, granted im probably in the minority having a 100 dollar limit
that being said if it was somthin really special like a toenail, swell center toe, etc. then i'd make that happen:D id be fulfilling a "grail knife" purchase in addition to it being a Great BFC ltd run, i'd even do another label for it...

if its going to happen it will start shortly i'm sure, least thats the way its been since the 2010 i worked on

GEC uses steel liners and pins in their budget lines (Farm and Field and the new Boys knives all have steel hardware), so I hope that choosing steel would not increase the price at all compared to brass or nickel.

Just for information. I'd imagine the folks who have been involved with these since the outset, would like something a little different from those already made.

Here's a pretty lousy picture of the BF Knives 2007 through 2012. Bottom left to right is 2007, 08, 09. Top left to right is 2010, 011,012. I think the only one I'm missing is the Ring Opener, which was the first in 2006? I believe the 2010 was the first to use our tang stamp.

Gary's picture is useful and important.

We need to consider something that has not been done before and bear in mind the constraints of cost and feasibility.

So, EITHER a single blade pattern (Swell End anybody?? Coke-Bottle...) and this could mean having special handles or a more costly stainless
OR a single-spring pattern which has not been done before either. GEC's forthcoming 54 single spring interests me. Or get GEC to make a Surveyor style knife?? I think Christian's Sodbuster idea is very likeable too, D2 or stainless especially.

I have the 08 Small Stockman in Stag, the 10 Moose in Ebony and the 11 in Jigged Bone. (time for Micarta or decent Acrylic..) All have pleased me but I don't favour repeats, yet.

Regards to all, Will

A Sodbuster with nice bone or stag scales would be my choice. These should be much cheaper (sub $100) than past Forum knives so more members can afford to participate, as well as buy multiples for gifting and trading.

Sumpthin' like this would look nice in any pocket!

2010 was nickle silver for everything (liners and pins). :)

I find it hard to pay with my other hobbies and such dropping over $100 but at present its the only knife I factor in for the whole year.

In 2009 it was a Queen/S&M Barlow. I still see 1 come up for sale on the Forum now & then. Here's a pic!

Nice looking Barlow! (Sorry to digress) :)

Sodbuster is a nice idea.

Single blade sheepsfoot #47 in stag or micarta instead of delrin. A relatively affordable way to get a pseudo-swayback with steel liners, good blade steel in O1, and it's already set up as a shadow pattern. GEC would only have to swap in new handle material and this could keep costs quite low.

Edited to add: Or if people like the Sodbuster-type Farm & Field version better, same deal.

Yes, a Sheepfoot single would be good. Their 47 looks a grand pattern, could be great with say Zebra or Kingwood and dare I suggest, a bar shield?

I think this is a great idea. Weather it's burnt stag, ebony wood, exotic bone, or acrylic covers that are used, a fancy sodbuster knife with 01 or D2 steel would be terrific as the 2013 forum knife. I think burnt or natural stag at an affordable price would be what I would like to see the most. It could also be a swell end or something else, but I think a single blade is definitely the way to go.

Hmmmm. Did someone say peanut!?!? I've had a Case peanut and it was nice, but for the BF traditional knife, maybe by AG Rusell?

I also really like the idea of a LARGE single blade.

I can't believe it took me this long to find this thread, now I gotta think about what I want this year.

How about a lambsfoot, really uncommon outside the UK...if we went with a single blade its something that would be unique to the market.

Guys .This isn't fair! I've only just recovered from Xmas & New Year. The brain will not engage again until after Australia Day (26 Jan). Honestly in this country work does not start again until then. People go to work of course but its like lizards waking from a torpor and waiting to warm up.
I only received my new xmas huckleberry in the mail yesterday and now I'm drooling like a dingo in a maternity ward.
So many great choices. I'm for the Lets do something different idea. Something we haven't already done.
Survey time ? I'm in regardless.
cheers

Hmmm....a BF 'Sharpfinger' would be awesome. I'd be into something smaller, too. I have the last two years. I like the 2012, but the EO Jack makes my heart flutter.
