2014 Forum Knife

"Around and Around it goes , where it stops , Nobody knows" :)

Best suggestion so far seems to be One deposit - One vote

I'm not singling out anybody I'm just expressing my opinion on what I think is about to become a very confusing and off topic thread, I made comments to about what I'd like to see and what I thought might alleviate some of the issues I just don't want to see this thread get so bogged down with order commitments, the more people see it in print/type the more it reinforces the idea, many people are just gonna open post without reading the whole thread, I've done this myself on long threads but usually I won't post till I've read the thread or most of it. (I've seen threads flip 180° and back in tone from the bottom of one page to the top of the next)...

I'm no mod and I don't wanna over step any boundries so I'm going to stick to reading more and posting less in this thread. :)

Amazingly, it was off topic with the first response to the thread. The suggestions came right away as to which knife would be a good choice for the forum knife, when just the the simple question was asked

Have we started on this yet? I can't find any posts about it.

I'm ready, let's do it!

I volunteer to help organize it if you'll have me...

All the OP wanted to do was see if anything was actually happening. I have read every post and... wow... this thread (even though there is no knife, no start point, no direction, no official OK from the powers that be, etc.) looks just like the other official BF knife threads. Folks putting in their favorite patterns, steels, handle materials, etchings, and on an on... and of course most with the conditional language of "I would be interested if it included this or that, or was this or that".

And all this tremendous activity because justsomedude asked if there even was a 2014 knife...

IF anything happens, IF anything can be done, IF there are people prepared (and financially able) to launch this year's project. Then I return to my post suggesting a Council of Wise Elders - say the Mods if they wish to, plus their nominations of members. They choose an in production pattern, get a quote, set a deadline for payments and if there's not enough take, no knife. If people are too late or sit on the fence too bad. It sounds easy but I suspect it is not, but just look at all the noise and speculation this thread has started, there's an anarchy of enthusiasm at least:D:thumbup:

Can't resist my daydream for the IF and If Knife 14 GEC Bullnose in Red or Yellow Jigged Bone (like the Radio Knives..) or Osage Orange. Highly polished blade (even stainless!!!) with Longpull and BF tang-stamp! Shouldn't be THAT expensive, hope, gibber!

Just in case level of interest counts i'd like to speak up for another forum knife, i sure hope it can be done though I can't imagine the difficulty, I've bought a forum knife for the last 3 years and always try to appreciate the effort that goes into getting them done.

I'd be in, and happy however it's best to get it done

Thank You Gene for all the YEARS of art work that you provided for us here at the Traditional Forum!
I for 1 (and I know there are many more) really appreciate all the work you put in with never a thought of monetary gain for yourself.
It is this man's kind of selflessness & generosity that makes this forum GREAT!!

Dave

thanks Dave! appreciate the kind words
Gene

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a 2014 knife - it would be a real shame if we had to let this tradition go!
Let's keep it simple this year like a barlow or a even a peanut... Everybody has his own ideas for "the perfect one" but personally I don't think a forum's knife has to be a knife designer's stroke of genius :D
I'm in for one as long as it bears the BFC Stamp (most important)! We can do something more sophisticated next year...

And for the polling process: "Best suggestion: One deposit - One vote"

If the powers that be are monitoring this thread, which, I'd assume they were, at the least, to evaluate the level of interest, I have to say:

I'm in!!!

I've watched this process over the last 4 years, and, though painful, it is always rewarding to the Traditional Forum, as a whole. Yes, there are those who go through the pain and stress, that we, for the most part, never see. I have to say that their work is greatly appreciated.

Please don't give up on this! I'd do whatever I can to help out.

So it's settled, a Case/Tony Bose collaboration special edition Sway Back Jack+ (+ meaning 3.75" closed), Tru Ivory scales, Federal Shield, pinched and fluted bolsters (no bare end), and Blade Forum stamp on tang. I knew we could all agree on something.

No, you forgot the coined liners and the deep Corncob jigging on that Ivory...:D:thumbup:

All for the low low price of $500+ right? We should be able to sell a dozen or so. LOL

No, you have to dye the ivory toxic green and laser-etch a skull and/or biohazard symbol on it. Geez, isn't that obvious?

One thing is clear from the other thread's poll, that 3½" is most favored, with 3¾" next most popular. But many people said they voted for one or the other, even though 3⅝" was their favorite. So I would say a 3⅝" knife would include the most interest. Of GEC's existing patterns, the #85 Bullet and the #92 Eureka fall in that range.

A forum knife on the 92 pattern could be very interesting as well.

Well, a single-blade GEC Eureka could tick the boxes: individual (especially with special bone), different, something not done before and can be kept to a credible price. Roll on November:D

Wait a minute, I voted for built in radiation, don't need no stinkin' biohazard symbols :barf::barf: Lost all faith in these polls and I vote next year we don't use GEC, CASE, BUCK, Queen, CS,RR,Böker but get a REAL Traditional company who listens (to me....) :D Sorry if I offended anyone but it's my rough n' ready way
