2014 Forum Knife

Well, a single-blade GEC Eureka could tick the boxes: individual (especially with special bone), different, something not done before and can be kept to a credible price. Roll on November:D

I would like that very much, bare head please
Mike

No, you have to dye the ivory toxic green and laser-etch a skull and/or biohazard symbol on it. Geez, isn't that obvious?

Brilliant!
If it's dyed green then nobody will know it's Ivory and we won't have any trouble reselling them after the "new" Ivory ban becomes law!
Brilliant!!
Just BRILLIANT!!! :D

You gotta get up pretty dang early to beat this bunch!!

GEC Eureka Jack (92 pattern) Elk scales, single blade (clip?).

My vote goes to a single spey blade, or better yet one of the "swooping" spey blades (not sure what they're called) On the Eureka frame or Dogleg frame. Blade would sit nice and low, and ride easy in the pocket. Walnut, Ebony, Cocobolo some type of wood...

Imagine that single blade on a Eureka or Dogleg frame :D

hey now.yeah.

Quite a bunch of patterns suggested here, considering that this thread should be about the possible event of having a 2014 knife

Aside from personal opinions, problems, ideas and issues, the BF traditional knife is a very popular topic, which is a good thing, or so it seems to me. Just like others, I keep my fingers crossed; I know there are issues behind the scenes, but I do hope there's a solution to every problem. :)

I'm aware that the whole process of making it happen is quite a headache for all the folks involved, and we're all grateful to the people that volunteered and worked hard for the past years. The idea of a SFO "guided" by a few forum polls (maybe less than last year), leaving more choices to the wisdom of the selected committee, sounds fair to me. A 50 usd prepay might work, or a 20 usd deposit to vote...this is just random thoughts though; I don't think there's anything wrong in wanting to know the basic features of the knife (at least the pattern) before committing to buy, and maybe we could decide a limit to the cost of the knife, while keeping it unique somehow. Last years' idea (using an existent frame with a new blade combo) is probably the best choice, compromising between cost and uniqueness; a single blade (or even a fixed blade) could be nice.

For the time being, while we wait for some news to leak from behind the scenes, brainstorming seems to be fair game :D

Dear Fausto
You have surgically summed up my concerns and removed my doubts (that 2014 is a go-er) in one fell post. Thanks mate.
Cheers

Or should we revert to the irradiated bright green moose bone barehead system of choosing? At least when the radiation takes effect we will end up with bare heads anyway. That's a win win for me.

Single blade esquire! Wharncliffe blade, stag and a lanyard hole for putting it on a keychain. The two blade stag production was under $90 ;) and pretty sure it would be legal everywhere.

Houston, countdown is proceeding.

I'm late as usual but after reading all 11 pages I'd like to add my 2 cents.

A few of you made excellent points and pay to play seems to be the smartest route. I'd be willing to pay $50-75 as a non-refundable deposit just to have a voice in the polls, it's a shame it has to come to this but closed polls seems to be the only way to weed out the unsure.

Last year was the 1st year I participated in the process for a forum knife and even though I don't have anything to compare it to, I still saw it as a bit hectic. I think that should we be given the opportunity to do this again this year, we should try our best to make life easier on those who would donate their time to make this happen.

This ^^^^, 100%

I'd put in a deposit but I'd like to know a ballpark figure for the price first. I wouldn't want to commit with a deposit and then have the price end up even more than last year's $130. Just a thought.

In my opinion it's rather painful to read through this thread, seeing posters pointing their fingers about, speculating about patterns that most likely won't get made, suggesting improvements to a process when they lack fundamentally important information about what happened with the 2013 knife. I doubt that the curtain will ever be fully raised on the elephant sitting in the corner of the living room, but I hope that there will at least be some honesty about the problems any future BF knife is likely to face. Without that information, without posters knowing the full picture, this thread is worse than pointless.
