2014 Forum Knife

77bfwithpenblade_zps2c5c6c27.jpg

Length 3.69" just under 3 3/4".
1095 steel. Glaze finish as opposed to high polish.

BF tang stamp, altered for the year. Etch to be approved.
Same deal on the Stag, as written in CSC's offer.

Prices to come.

I am assuming that both companies had the same opportunity to present their offerings.

If you go by the presentations offered here, then GEC wins by a landslide. If one thinks about how much extra work went into that beautiful presentation, one could reasonably assume that the same effort could very well translate into the actual production. I think GEC should get some extra consideration for all the fantastic special order knives they have provided to many here, via Waynorth. Other than that, I agree completely with galvanic1882. Just one solitary opinion.:)

Great work Charlie, I think both GEC offerings look stunning

This 77 pattern from GEC appears to be the 78/79 frame with a square bolster. At 3.69 it is really just a slightly larger 15 frame which I really like. I hope we can discuss or vote on changing the pen blade to a coping. Looking over the past forum knives the theme is usually to be unique. A single blade version is not unique, nor is a standard jack configuration. Just my thoughts and I want one regardless.

As I said I'll be in for at least one whatever comes out.
My choice would be easily in favor of any tang stamped with our BFC stamp - it's important! (at least for me :D)

Thanks for all the work, Charlie

Two blade jack from GEC would be my choice. I just hope they could replicate the swedge, otherwise it would be just like all their swedged clips. Let's have some shape.

I would be leaning towards the GEC two blade, but the Canal Street looks very nice also.

It looks to me like we have a Win/Win situation on our hands, thanks to all working on this!

I agree. Clip main with a coping secondary would be fantastic.

I could be happy with either. I think I'd prefer the 2 blade configs but won't not buy one if single blade is chosen.

I really like the way you are handling the effort this year Charlie, thank you sir!

I think it is fantastic that Canal Street offered a knife for our consideration this year. Unfortunately we will end up either turning away from the company that made the last 3 BFC knives (when they were the only one that would), or turning down the first alternative to even bother returning the phone call in that same time. But that is the nature of the beast.

Since this years knife will have stag covers I think it is important that we know, if at all possible, the 'finish' that each manufacturer plans on using on the stag.
Thinner with bark to the bolster? or left thicker and ground down to the bolster?
Are they planning burnt stag? dyed and polished? or natural/genuine?
Is the stag already dyed/burnt?

Can't wait to vote!

Another thank-you to Charlie, GEC and CSC. Right now my vote would go to GEC's 2 blade knife. I know many prefer a single blade pocket knife for slimmer carry, but I've always felt one of the primary advantages to a pocket knife to be the versatility and personality of that secondary blade IMHO.

They are both nice looking knives, but my vote is for the GEC. Single blade, + pen blade, + coping blade configurations are all fine with me.

Agree 100% that the finish to the stag is important to consider. Based on what is shown here the GEC presentation is head and shoulders above Canal, single or two-blade, GEC gets my vote for sure.

So I guess we won't be doing a Rambo knife in stag?! ;)

I love the 2-blade GEC mock up!

Here's the only stag photo of that CS pattern (with single blade) that I have right now, I'll see if I can come up with something better on Monday. This one has the CS etch on the bolster, so no shield:

Both look very nice. The CS stag pic above looks very classy. There is something about a single blade trapper that I like. If it was a two blade I much prefer the trapper with the wharncliffe secondary to the traditional spey.

The GEC offering looks very interesting. The two blade would be of most interest to me. Overall the CS appeals to me more. I like the shield and like some others, I have many GEC
knives.
I would think that GEC will eventually make a production version of the 77.

Bottom line is I won't say no to any of them. I couldn't spare the cash for last years knife after losing my job. I am not missing this one!

Both are pretty unique offerings with John Lloyd supplying his otherworldly stag. After thinking on it for an evening and a morning the GEC definitely has grabbed me more. It would look great as a barehead also. Single, secondary or anything at all, I'm in.

I was thinking this as well. As it's been mentioned before, this #77 looks like the #78 American Jack and there's already an abundance of those knives with the two bolsters out there.
