2014 Forum Knife

If we ended up doing the CSC offering I'd prefer it in the single blade, but I have to agree it looks like a pretty run of the mill trapper. I appreciate they're working with us on it but it just looks like a standard trapper with a different tang stamp to me. So my vote would go for the GEC, personally I'd prefer the 2 blade with pen just as shown, but a coping blade secondary wouldn't put me off at all. Well for that matter the single blade wouldn't either.

All that said I'm in for one regardless, maybe 2 again if it goes to my preference. If by some whacky way we ended up with an option both in single blade and 2 blade I'd buy them both in a hot minute, but I know that's not really in the plans. Thanks to Charlie and the others behind the scenes, great choices and the process has certainly been alot smoother this way.

The GEC offering gets my vote; one or two blade option is fine with me. I can't say 'no' to those beautiful lined bolsters...very classy.

My experience with CS and stag on the trapper frame:

Less than stellar. In CS's defense, this was whitetail stag which is more difficult to work with. Still, I think a little time matching up scales is preferable to this type of result. :grumpy:

I'm sure this is an extreme example, but it does highlight why, in general, I prefer wood or Micarta scales.

Wally at CSC has upped the options. He will put a wharncliffe secondary on the two blade if we want. He will also put a Wharcliffe Main in a one blade if we want it! We will have to decide that choice before we do the final poll.

Here is his price list, based on 300 knives.
He also has 2 steel choices, 440c and 1095. Add $2 to each price for stainless 440c. I have added the shipping and Paypal fees into the prices so these are totals. I have also added a couple of bucks for the unforseen. It happens every time!
CANAL STREET
One blades - $76
Two blades - $81

GREAT EASTERN
One blades - $74
Two blades - $86

Not bad pricing IMO!!

Am I seeing a stag handled, Wharncliffe Trapper in 440C for $83?
Have Mercy!

Adding the Wharncliffe option just tipped the scale for me.

I'll be in for two, whichever we go with, but I really like the GEC a lot. Blade steel doesn't make much difference to me, though stainless would be nice, almost all my knives are carbon. I prefer two blades on the GEC, spear or clip main, pen or coping secondary; if we go with CSC I'd want just one clip blade. If we do go with CSC is there any chance we might be able to go shield-less? I'm not really a fan of the round shield.

Thanks Charlie for heading this up, I look forward to seeing the end result!

I could only go with what Wally sent me. I asked him to send them in different formats, but they were no better. This picture is much better!
I'm gonna steal it!! (ok?)

Yes, of course Charlie. If you'll note, I ended my post with "I appreciate your efforts Charlie. Thanks." My post wasn't meant to be discourteous to you Charlie. I really do appreciate your efforts. Also I was just giving some of my round about thoughts about what a forum knife should be as to the meaning of the knife.

That brings up another question. Is Sarah helping you with this? I haven't seen her around the last few weeks.

Ditto!!! That would be a heck of a knife. A 2-dollar add on for 44C is too good to pass up. My .02¢

Great prices indeed.

Thanks for all the hard work Charlie!

Do you know if GEC would be flexible on the secondary blade choice or steel? It would be interesting to have stag and O1 :D

A 440c wharncliffe trapper is very interesting with stag at that price! I would also prefer shieldless on that one.

While I prefer carbon steel, I'm in for whatever we decide on.

I will add, for what it's worth, that I don't care for polished mark and satin pile side finish. Make it one or the other. I have a CSC Trapper with the Chestnut handles, and while I love the knife, one blade has a very weak pull--2 or 3 at best. I don't care for nail breakers, but that is too light. I do like the idea of a wharnie trapper, but I don't want the single blade to be a wharnie.

Now that sounds very interesting!

As far as the CSC, I'd like to pass on the wharncliffe. The clip has a good point and the spey has a long straight edge.... plus, wasn't the 2012 that combination?

Good pricing BTW.

Looks like we win either way.

On questions like shield-less and different steels:
The reason we are getting these bonzai prices is we are keeping it simple!
It is not a custom knife, so we cannot make all kinds of variations. We have to fit into a production scenario, and changes along the way send the costs into the stratosphere.
We are lucky to get the choices we have, well under our target budget.
At these prices, I see the knives as great users, not safe queens, although I would like to see some in good shape in 10-20 years, so we can all point to them and say we had a hand in bringing them to life - errr. . .to pocket I guess!:D

An aside. I do not in any way work for BladeForums!
But, it would be cool if some of you who are Free Riders out there, could scratch up the dough and upgrade to paid membership on BladeForums. Spark saw the light and let us handle our own annual knife. I know he sometimes wonders why he does this Forum, because it is not making him rich, so a paid membership helps insure that we have this place where we enjoy meeting! 'Nuff said.

Thank you for all the hard work! Your price quotes are much better than expected, and very exciting! I am really digging the way it has all played out so far! Thanks to all involved
