2014 Forum Knife

I missed these pics until just now and all I can say is wow! The GEC proposal is stunning! Really loving the clip, bolsters, and shield on it! Let the voting commence and I'll start slowly sneaking money out of the "dad joke/bad pun jar" :D

GEC all the way! Outstanding design and build, and blows CS out of the water, IMO.

Since the shield popped out of my last brand-new CS knife, and I never even used it, I've not been back to buy another. Besides, their offering is just a plain trapper in standard configuration and frame pattern, as far as I can see.

This is a no-brainer guys.

I like em all! I've never been unhappy with a GEC or Canal Street knife. Thanks Charlie!

My experience with CS and stag on the trapper frame:

Less than stellar. In CS's defense, this was whitetail stag which is more difficult to work with. Still, I think a little time matching up scales is preferable to this type of result. :grumpy:

Those look great. My vote would go to single clip from GEC. If the secondary on the jack could be a coping, my vote would change :)

How about a clip master and sheepfoot secondary blade? However it goes, I definitely am in on the GEC, be it single or double blade... or both!

The Canal Street offering? Not so much. Yawn....

I was thinking Both GECs a single and double blade, coping or sheepsfoot secondary would be perfect. I would be in for one of each.

Best regards

Robin

Coping, sheepfoot, wharnie, makes no matter to me :D

The combo of one belly and one straight is the ticket, in my book anyway ;)

I've no experience with Canal Street and their shields, but I agree that the pattern is just a standard trapper. The GEC is a no-brainer for me, too. (helps I got no brain ;) )

Well, when an out of focus picture of a CSC knife without stag covers is presented in comparison to a sharp, clear, drawing of a GEC knife with stag covers it is most likely that people will select the proposed GEC knife depicted in the drawing. Personally, if included in a poll, I'd choose the CSC knife in the picture, with stag covers of course, - one reason being to break away from the stranglehold that GEC seems to have on us as it pertains to our annual forum knives. To me, our forum knife should not just represent a traditional pattern but should also represent various traditional knife manufactures whenever possible.

This is an in-focus picture of a Canal Street trapper with burnt stag covers (not my picture) that gives a better representation of what we can expect from Canal Street - glued in shield and all.

I appreciate your efforts Charlie. Thanks.

If it helps, my HMT with stag covers. This was made a few years ago (I'd have to check the box to be sure). The pile side stag is a little thicker than the mark side but that isn't unusual with stag. I have GEC knives that are the same.

No problem Al. Also, I believe it was just sold as Sambar Stag, not burnt stag. I don't think it was torched at all.

I could only go with what Wally sent me. I asked him to send them in different formats, but they were no better. This picture is much better!
I'm gonna steal it!! (ok?)

To be honest, I'd only be interested in the GEC proposal. If GEC is chosen I will certainly buy.

It's something fresh, the Swell-End will suit stag and so will their PINNED (as opposed to glued coin style) tooth shield which should really offset the stag. I'd prefer the single blade but the Jack's just fine too.

It's very good that other companies have shown interest, but the CS proposal for me at least is lacklustre and run of the mill.

Thanks to these fine cutlers for giving us the chance to choose and to Charlie for Ringmaster and many other skills!

Regards, Will

I should add, that for me - as a pattern decision, something unique, vs. another trapper, has a lot of appeal.
