2014 Northeast Beckerhead Gathering - 2014 Oct 10-12

I have been thinking of bringing some dried cedar to the gathering so if anyone wants to give a bow drill fire a try they can. I can show you some pointers and do my best to help you guys get an ember.

If there is interest let me know so I can cut up the cedar into more manageable pieces.

I'd be interested. I also have a whole bunch of #2 cedar shingles that I use for shim stock when doing carpentry and if it'd be any help, I'll bring some along. I have quite a few that are too thick to be useful for shimming.
 
I am really looking forward to next weekend. Thinking about bringing a portable rain shelter just in case.
Just tested out the Wally World campfire pocorn maker. I can report that it works just fine. I will definitely be bringing it.
 
I was also thinking about rain this weekend.
Tomahawk and slingshot targets are done.
Wood is cut.
Just need to go shopping for the essentials.(Doritos and cheeseburgers)

Phew. I doubt we could survive very long without those.
Imma try and make some banana bread this afternoon to bring. If I can prevent it from being consumed in the next few days. I might have to put it in a lockbox.
 
I can get some straight from the farm fresh eggs from a friend of ours if you want. It would be cheaper than getting them from the store and taste a lot better. Just let me know how many.

I tried to call you today trailbum, you were either sleeping or unavailable according to whoever answered the phone. You have some really polite kids!

I'll just say bring a few dozen. My older daughter can't have them, but the little one and I would love them. We had some farmer's market eggs (and sausage!) for breakfast this morning that my brother brought over. Waaay better than the store.

Yeah man! I am pumped. I believe the trades are going.

I just got off the phone with trailbum. It sounds like we are going to have a great time.

Except for the showing up part. Since you're already in-state....I for one expect to see you there, even if it's only for a day. Shouldn't be hard - I have to plan meals for my food-allergic kid and make sure the other one doesn't cut off a finger or disappear into the woods following a butterfly or something, and I'm coming....
 
I'd better start piling up my gear. Since I'm doing virtually no planning, I'm just gonna take whatever fits in the truck and see what's useful. Worst case scenario, I sleep in my sleeping bag in the truck cab.

I will, however, plan to bring sharp things and sharpening things.

I've got an extra tent if you need it. Say the word. And a thermarest or two. The girls and I will be going with the GIANT tent and blow up mattresses. Totally roughing it.
 
So, any preliminary schedule for activities or arrivals?
For my part, I expect to be able to stay one night for sure. Could be Friday or Saturday. MAYBE both. Then likely heading west to the Berkshires. I'd like to overlap with as many folks as possible.
 
Sad news (for us anyway) boys. We're out. Got some business we can't shake loose from on Monday.
 
That sucks trade. I was looking forward to meeting you and your wife. I hope that the business you have to take care of goes well.
