I didn't vote because either steel would be fine with me. There are those who feel more passionately about the type of steel, and I'll leave the choice to them. Thanks Charlie for getting us to this point.

Put my vote in - I like both of those steels equally well, so a winner either way from my point of view. OH

I voted 1095 because I like the way it looks and performs and for some inexplicable reason I think a traditional knife blade should be made of it (even if stainless has been around since the first part of the last century). But I, like most, would be happy with either (especially since my Canal St. in 440c has been great).
Thanks for checkin with us Charlie.

I was hoping for 1095 from Canal Street as they (I believe) still have cutlers that worked for Schrade U.S.A., and are made (I think) in the same building that Schrade was.
For this reason, (and old time sake) I was so hoping for the 1095 to give me a point of reference to compare with some of my old 1095 Schrades.
Looks like it aint happening now. :(

I'm not certain that I understand this comment. The cutlers don't heat treat the blade. The legendary performance of Schrade 1095 was due to the heat treat.

Kind of interesting. If you looked at the posts, you'd have a much higher Stainless vote. Seems like most of the 1095 folks are keeping it quiet.

What conclusions could be brought up by that little factoid? :)

I voted Stainless, by the way.

Sorry about that. I would have thought that any cutlery company would have worked closely with the company that would be tempering their products.

OK, I will try to pose the questions in a more understandable format.

Did Schrade not have any input, or control over what heat treat process was used?

Who (if you know) did Schrade use for heat treat?

Who does Canal Street use?

Does G.E.C use the same company?

And to try and keep this on the topic at hand, does anybody know the HRC of the proposed 440C?

The poll is open to anyone on the forums. I notice that the post topic does not mention the word "Traditional," nor is there any indication of that in the first post. It just says "2015 Bladeforums Knife" which could imply the entire site.

So there may be any number of people voting who are not interested in actually owning the knife, or even participants of the Traditional subforum here. If they are finding the thread from the "New Posts" link they may think they are voting for some general interest knife.

I am actually surprised by the number of 440C votes, since the active posters seem to have preferred carbon steel in the past. I happen to like both carbon and stainless steels, and have a mixture of both, so I'll be OK with whatever the outcome is. I voted for 440C myself just because we haven't had a forum knife yet in SS.

If you will notice the sub forum this poll is in is titled "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades." ;)

Yes, I am a denizen of this forum. :D

Just pointing out that some people may not take notice of that if they are just clicking on the poll topic from the "new posts" page. I am sure most do notice, but not all.

I'm sure that a few people who have no interest have voted, but I doubt that they have swayed the outcome.
