2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

As much as I love GEC and own the largest private collection of them in the Illawarra region of N.S.W. or possibly even N.S.W. as a whole -:yawn:
I'd like to see a different manufacturer make 2015.
There, I've said it.

^^^ Me too.

I was very pleased to see Canal Street as a viable choice last year.

I'd like to see GEC's interpretation of a Scout knife, using Tru Ivory for scales, and a bale inserted into a hollow rivet.

I understand there's some interest in a Scout/Camper style knife; what say you?

I won an official Boy Scout knife when I was a cubbie for second place selling tickets for the Greater Cincinnati Area Boy Scout Jamboree back in, well, let's say I remember the 60s. I don't know what ever became of it. I've been watching the bay for a quality one at a price I'm ready to pay, but not found it yet. I have three or four Kamp Kings around, two in mint shape, a U.S. Army demo knife (as we called them), and a blank for lack of a better term that only needs scales to be done. None of them have really scratched the itch.

A really nice Scout/Camper pattern with the traditional blades, or maybe a sheepsfoot main blade (ya got the awl for pointy needs) with nice scales would be a fine thing to have and to hold. A bail on it of course.

For a paltry $35.00 or so, you can buy 2 slabs of 4"x1"x.18" pre-ban elephant ivory and have a knifesmith who knows what he's doing install them. I have over 25 lbs of elephant ivory waiting for someone to step up and tell me they can make me scales, but inspite of several posts on several different sub-forums of my needs, no one has stepped up to the plate. I cannot imagine the labor cost of cutting and polishing this small amount of ivory, plus profit would be prohibitive.

Here's a sample...

Another pattern I think we should put some thought behind would be the Jack with a locking blade requiring the secondary blade be pressed to release the lock. This mystery pattern is pretty much relegated to German knives now days, if you can find one at all.

I don't have much preference regarding the knife itself...for me it's about supporting the community. And with that in mind, I'd be happy to work on the artwork again, if needed.

I wanted to respond to this, because I don't know if Liam's post was really noticed in this thread yet. I missed out on the 2014 BF knife, but I got to enjoy seeing Liam's artwork for it, which is stellar. And here he is once more...:)

Me personally, I don't care to have an input on the style of knife, surprise me. All I want is Appaloosa bone, whether it's traditional color or another color (calico style, green, orange you get the picture). I had pre-ordered a mike gec 77 sfo because it said rose Appaloosa, which I thought was going to be sweet. Unfortunately, when I got the e-mail to order the knife was a smooth rose bone rather then Appaloosa so I didn't order one.

Appaloosa bone would be super, but what company has made it recently? I mean, who has offered a really great, classic Appaloosa bone lately?

I'm still thinking the other requirement should be affordability. At just over 70 bucks, this year's knife was a steal. Maybe the next one could likewise be kept under $100... Single blade is another preference of mine, which would keep the price low.

I've kept pretty quiet for most of this thread but this idea I love, this would fulfill all the requirements of a forum knife, now other than the Germans and possibly the Japanese who else are known manufacturers of this style?

Beings that it is 2015 I think something on the GEC 15 frame would be appropriate.
Maybe a Beerlow?

I would have no preference they are all great suggestions. If I had my druthers a Cuban pattern would be it.

I would love one of these if I could afford it or find one. Maybe Charlie could bring it back like he was able to with the Washington Jack (2OT), Barlows, etc. One can only dream. :D Seriously I am happy to get anything that says Bladeforums though.

I think a Lanny's clip would be amazing.
As far as I can find there's nobody making a production version of that pattern.

The one pattern that I would really like to see is a Lannys clip. I don't really care what the covers are but a D2 blade is far superior to 1095 in my mind.

I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth, but here it goes: A Barlow on the 15 is Charlie's thing. Charlie has maintained the #15 Barlow with traditional blades found on this pattern. Sticking with tradition negates putting a top popper on this barlow. I wanted one too, but I can really understand why it's unlikely to happen. That fella has really made the Barlow the hot item it is.... I figure he knows what he is doing with it.

Maybe the Canal Street Barlow or Mike's Barlow could be options.... I will say, that there has already been a barlow featured as a forum knife.

All of that is my own words, but that's how I see it. Anyways, we need a forum peanut..... 1095 and Appaloosa bone would be quite nice on it!
