2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I'd prefer a pen, but I wouldn't quibble. ;)

If it was a peanut with a hacksaw blade toys be happy, just so long as it was a peanut. ;) :) Actually the only small knife we did was the very first, the '06 CSC Ring Opener Pen and there were only 38 of those made IIRC. I could go for a peanut this year, like I said though, I've gotten what I wanted the last 3 years running so I'm gonna support the majority vote this year if we can get one made.

Many people have stated that they would like a manufacturer other than GEC to do a FK. I understand this but on the other hand, GEC has a frame or two that can be re-worked, thus keeping down costs WHICH WILL BE IMPORTANT.

Here's an idea or two:

Using the popular 81 Stockman frame, how about a Surveyor pattern? Large Clip and Sheepfoot secondary on a single-spring in Orange Osage Wood? Not had a 2 blade one spring knife before, the wood is attractive and not been used, the pattern is unusual but practical. Big knife.

Using the 82 Dixie frame, single spring long Clip and Coping or short Wharncliffe secondary in smooth bone? Again, a single-spring 2 blade, a larger knife, unusual blades and Smooth Bone never been used before. simple eh? Not really....

I really like the one spring, two blades configuration. Seems I even suggested such back a ways...

After handling last year's forum knife for a few months I'm really liking the pocketability of single spring blades.

Another pattern I think we should put some thought behind would be the Jack with a locking blade requiring the secondary blade be pressed to release the lock. This mystery pattern is pretty much relegated to German knives now days, if you can find one at all.

A personal opinion and devils advocate;

We've had a barlow already. I like that we've chosen something different every year, let's keep that up. But if it must be a barlow, please don't put a caplifter on it.

Clip main, with coping secondary? You got my attention!

I like both the idea of the peanut and the secondary blade locking mechanism. I throw my vote for the peanut, but can we consider trying a punch blade secondary?? I'll keep pushing this agenda, but in such a small knife as a peanut the secondary blade length really isn't as versatile as on a larger knife. From experience I know that a punch turns the knife into a more versatile tool, as you have more functions that the knife is capable of. While I would love a Wharncliffe primary, a clip primary will also add to versatility with the fine tip, belly and significant straight portion. Smaller knife with wood scales should negate much price increase for the punch tooling, if needed. Small punch knives exist, but are rare v

So how about it voters? Active Wood handled (cocobolo/bocote/rosewood) peanut with wharncliffe or clip primary, and a hidden locking mechanism on the secondary PUNCH!!! Maybe a clip like on the Humpback Whittler, not a commonly used variety of clip, but very useable IMO.

Come on small knife fans!! A truly unique knife, based on traditional patterns, made ours!! Everybody has bigger knives, let's go with the secondary/small gentle and knife.

My second choice would be the double blade single spring knife, but with both blades different lengths!

I could get behind a Surveyer pattern with main Clip and Sheepfoot on a single spring. It would be like a single-spring version of the 93OT. Really useful, and big enough but thin, IMHO.

I could also get behind a Peanut-sized jack with a Punch or SCISSORS secondary. I don't have need of a locking mechanism, and wouldn't want the extra expense, but I wouldn't turn it down just because of a lock.

Lots of great ideas in this thread.

How does the forum knife work? Does one have to be a Gold member to get in line (I'm sure there are a limited number and it is first come, first serve, etc.)?

All members have had the same chance to order forum knives in the past.

For my part, I subscribed to this thread as soon as it started, and I check in frequently. I don't have useful suggestions for blades, covers or anything else at the moment, but I do have a serious desire not to miss it this year like I did last year's!

Let's hope I've a good strategy.

And thanks to the Exchange, I have a 2010 BF knife.

Besides a punch or scissors as secondary, how about a good set of tweezers? And the ability to order an extra set of tweezers. ...

Guys, its only January and we already have 13 pages of ideas for the 2015 forum knife. Maybe we should put our faith in one undisputed knife expert on the forum and go with the system we used last year. It seemed to work well and all we need to do is find another capable leader like we had for the 2014 forum knife. I would be willing to handle the actual pre-sales/vendor payment and shipping through Gunstock Jack's Knives.

Who can we possibly approach to offer their expert consultation?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
