2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

We should keep in mind that the Forum knife needs to be produced in conjunction with a factory run if price is to remain affordable. Not to pick a favorite production facility, but GEC comes up with several new patterns every year for example.

Also remember that last years knife was made more affordable due to a generous contribution of stag from John Lloyd and we can't expect that to be the case this year.

And finally, I think the person who eventually takes charge should make the decision on the pattern, since that is where we need his expertise. :) I have had a conversation with such a person and he is contemplating the effort. Stay tuned to this thread.....

... That said, I would love to see the traditional forum build a small whittler, 3.5".smooth bone of carbon steel blades. Similar to what Queen built for MooreMaker in their model #5306.

My guess is that in six months time, half the posters with opinions now won't be here, and of the rest at least half will want something else ;)

That's funny. I've tried to stay out of the BF trads knives formation/opinions threads. I've started to wait to see what "we" came up with and decided if I liked it and if I do, I'd try to get one....
One of the years ago I was all up in it, brain farted the time and didn't even get one ordered. I felt like an idiot!

NO PRESSURE !!! :eek::D

Sounds good Liam, I thought last years label was great looking.

OK, here's my $.02 worth: an 85 pattern GEC easy opener with ornate gimp shield and jigged bone covers, single blade with heavy stamp (like Galvanic's Eureka Jack), maybe something like "Old Reliable" on a fat spear blade.

OK, I'm done! lol

Wow, now that one sounds perfect to me!View attachment 504097

A whittler pattern would actually be a great choice. Not my first, but definitely a classic design that hasn't been done.

Wasn't there a 'canitler'. (Canoe/whittler) In 2007? Technically a whittler, although not a split spring and a much chunkier knife than slimmer whittlers. That being said, I would love to see a slim whittler for this year, and maybe to make it more unique, have 3 blades with the third being a nail file.

Too bad I can't put up a poll...I'd be interested in how many would like to see a sodbuster pattern or a Camper pattern for the 2015 forum knife. Tru Ivory faux elephant scales would also be nice.

Those sound like great ideas Al  But I think we're all putting the cart before the horse here somewhat. If a certain someone hadn't stepped in last year, we wouldn't have had a forum knife, and that's more or less where we are again, albeit with a very positive experience from last year's knife behind us. In my opinion, there's little point in us all picking patterns until someone (or several someones) steps up, who has the experience, connections, and commitment to see the project through, someone who is also prepared to donate a lot of unpaid time and effort. If someone is prepared to take on that role, I'd personally want to make things as easy as possible for them, along the lines of how things happened last year.

Rather than throw out my amateur ideas, I would rather wait and see if a certain someone really wants to volunteer as our expert consultant. Instead of subjecting you kind folks to my proposals, which are probably left over from my preadolescent fascination with the knife display at the hardware store, I will continue to defer to those of you who have more wisdom and experience in this matter. That's kind of my longwinded way of saying that I agree with Barry (gunstockjack) and Jack Black.:thumbup:

Who is that certain someone...is it the donor of the stag? Insofar as volunteering, what kind of volunteers do they need?

I know im new here to this forum..ive never bought a forum knife, but I would love to see a really nice sodbuster..i would think it would be somewhat economical to make..may be im wrong here....but for us guys who don't have a lot of expenadable income, maybe we could get us a forum knife

Wow!!!! Haven't been able to be in on previous forum knives but I'll start saving for this version of one!!! A lanyard hole and the previously discussed matchstrike pull would make it even better IMO. Would love to have a single blade 85 EO spear!!!!!!

I'm pretty positive whatever comes of this knife, it will be a beauty. I'm not much of a traditional guy but I wanted to chime in and comment on the beauty of last year's Stag Jack. As I'm more of a modern folder kind of guy, the Stag Jack was my first "real" traditional and I own one thanks to the unbelievable generosity of another forum member.

I've caught the bug and am now anxiously awaiting what comes of this thread. Thanks to all who make stuff like this possible.

Still new to the forums but I have seen many posts withe forum lnives. I have 2 suggestions. A slimline trapper with a long clip and Mexican cedar scales. Or a smaller gents knife like a pen knife with light colored smooth bone handles.
