2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Guys, its only January and we already have 13 pages of ideas for the 2015 forum knife. Maybe we should put our faith in one undisputed knife expert on the forum and go with the system we used last year. It seemed to work well and all we need to do is find another capable leader like we had for the 2014 forum knife. I would be willing to handle the actual pre-sales/vendor payment and shipping through Gunstock Jack's Knives.

Who can we possibly approach to offer their expert consultation?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Now there's a lovely idea I think many could get behind. Now if that expert could be persuaded to consult.... ;);););)

Well, let's not forget that expert did a great deal for our community here last year, snatching (with help) triumph, when it looked like we might not have a forum knife at all. Perhaps, we ought not to put to put too much pressure on anyone, or be too demanding :)

Many people have stated that they would like a manufacturer other than GEC to do a FK. I understand this but on the other hand, GEC has a frame or two that can be re-worked, thus keeping down costs WHICH WILL BE IMPORTANT.

Here's an idea or two:

Using the popular 81 Stockman frame, how about a Surveyor pattern? Large Clip and Sheepfoot secondary on a single-spring in Orange Osage Wood? Not had a 2 blade one spring knife before, the wood is attractive and not been used, the pattern is unusual but practical. Big knife.

Using the 82 Dixie frame, single spring long Clip and Coping or short Wharncliffe secondary in smooth bone? Again, a single-spring 2 blade, a larger knife, unusual blades and Smooth Bone never been used before. simple eh? Not really....

I would push for that #82 with a california/muskrat clip and coping/wharncliffe secondary on a single spring with all my might.

Also, I still think a peanut or camp/utility would be great.

Throwing this out there: I think the 2014 Stag Jack, made by GEC, is the best value knife I've bought so far. For $76 we got GEC's immaculate quality (which was noted to be even higher on the forum knife), and there's no reason to think that less people will order this year (making it out of many people's price range). I don't have knives from many other manufacturers, but I know I prefer GEC.

Heh - I don't know if he'll want to do it again, but I hope so.

I have already volunteered my services for the label and etch if needed.

NO PRESSURE !!! :eek::D

Sounds good Liam, I thought last years label was great looking.

OK, here's my $.02 worth: an 85 pattern GEC easy opener with ornate gimp shield and jigged bone covers, single blade with heavy stamp (like Galvanic's Eureka Jack), maybe something like "Old Reliable" on a fat spear blade.

OK, I'm done! lol

...just tell me where to send my money! :D

Point well taken, of course. :)

I'll take two if you give it a matchstrike pull.

How does the forum knife work? Does one have to be a Gold member to get in line (I'm sure there are a limited number and it is first come, first serve, etc.)?

In the past it has been on a first come, first served, basis. There have been no membership requirements.

I would appreciate a repeat of the system which was used last year because of its refreshing lack of drama.

Now we are talking... with the match strike of course! Got to love a fat spear blade!

I am all in with this! Any idea when the decision will be made? I am a newbie... came diving into knife collecting just in time to completely miss it last year! I am not going to let that happen this year.

I'm good with last year's process, if all those who ran it are good with it.... or if new people want to take up some slack. I'd be glad to help if someone wants me to do something.

The #85 pattern though? That was done in 2011.
