2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Yep, remember it well...someone asked for volunteers, I said I would, and never heard a thing since...and I don't whine either, thankless or not.

I couldn't find that, but it's an interesting thread to re-read (with a lot of deja vu), I'm sure some of our newer members could learn a lot from it. Good Sodbuster ideas BTW

Who is that certain someone...is it the donor of the stag? Insofar as volunteering, what kind of volunteers do they need?

For those of you who are new, or those who do not remember, or those who are otherwise are clueless as to the truth of the matter: The ONLY reason there was a 2014 knife of any kind was the direct intervention of Charlie (Waynorth).

Very true Frank. It's a big undertaking, without a doubt. Charlie, Barry and John, also Eric did a wonderful job IMO, based on all the requests and ideas that were floating around. From what I've read of the older posts concerning the 2014 BF knife thread, leading up to the actual knife being decided on, I still don't know how they pulled it off! Seems an impossible task from here.

Having been here since the humble beginnings of the first knife at something like 38 made and having watched this grow to the enormous undertaking it is now I've been amazed that it was pulled together every year. It's only gotten harder and I'm afraid when it's not fun anymore the people who volunteer their time won't.

As this tradition has grown in size so has it grown in complexity and we need to do every thing we can to make this easier and bring back the fun. I'm for anything that keeps the yearly Traditional's Forum Knife going, I want to be collecting these for a long time, just my 2¢ worth.

I totally agree Perry and Ted, I am happy with any Bladeforum knife and feel extremely lucky to be the beneficiary of so much hard work by by a very generous few.

Good post Ted

In my opinion, all the demands being made in this thread, do not increase the likelihood of a 2015 forum knife, quite the opposite.

We have to get away from the Subway sandwich style of putting this together, to many choices and variations. Fingers crossed and hoping we have a 2015 knife.

I'm sure the powers that be are taking this in the vein it was meant to be,, members throwing ideas like spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks.. :)

I haven't seen any demands. It's just people throwing out wishlists and discussing knives that they think would be cool. Sometimes it's fun to just throw out fun ideas. It really doesn't matter to me whether there's a forum knife at all, as it would have to be one of a couple specific patterns for me to buy it and I doubt that I'd be so lucky. However, I do have a lot of fun reading through what other people would like to see. I don't understand why people come in here and poo-poo other people having a dream forum knife that they want to share with us. As long as it's just "This would be nice" type of posts instead of "It better be" type of posts there's no harm in it. If there are any of the latter I've missed them completely. If Charlie was sensitive enough that somebody having a wishlist that doesn't exactly match his design would throw him off, last year's knife never would have happened. ;) If he's decided that it's not worth the effort maybe Derrick or Mike would step up. They both have experience producing very desirable SFOs. I don't know if they'd be interested or if Charlie isn't interested. I just know that threads like these are much more fun if everybody just relaxes and has fun with it. If we're walking on eggshells and the whole forum knife experience is a negative one, what's the point?

Nobody wants to spoil the fun and believe me that's not my intention, just want to make sure that until there's a committee there's no forum knife, it's basically a wish list for an SFO but I've seen these threads turn into orders for a knife because the entire thread wasn't read just the last few posts. Then folks get angry because they thought there was a knife in production already.

I guess I'm just trying like some of the other senior members to keep this thread grounded so some of the newer members aren't disappointed. Personally I'm going to buy whatever comes down the pike if we have a knife this year because I'm already invested to the tune of about $1,000 so I'm not about to miss a knife if I can help it. It's really the only knife I know I'm getting each year so my family has a year to save their nickels and dimes to buy dad his knife. :)

Good points, both, Cory and Ted. I was a "new guy" here once, too, and had to learn the process so-to-speak. I do remember somewhat contentious arguments for both the 2012 and 2013 knives. The process used last year worked very well to produce a final product and was a resounding success. It would do well to try to replicate that process as much as possible in the interest time and harmony. Of course, there will always be people who are disappointed with the process or final product decided upon, but that can't eliminated, only minimized. As individuals, we have the power the decide whether or not we choose to buy what is offered. The trick, of course, is trying to reach a general consensus that appeals to a broad base. At this stage, I see no problem with just tossing out some ideas and see if there is any kind of consensus. FWIW, I'd like to see GEC patterns 47, 15, or 92.

The first order of business should be to find out if Spark is OK with a 2015 knife. Without his approval any discussions are really just spinning wheels...

With most forum knives, over my many years of being a member at other sites, I seldom made any requests for a certain knife. I have primarily just waited till the knife came out and then if I liked it, I would buy one. BTW, this last year's BF knife is the very first and only forum knife I've ever bought. Even still getting there late in the game.

I have agreed to facilitate for one more year, if you all will have me???
I will not accept the payments, or do the clerical work. I have to agree those are not my strong suits!:o

Wonderful news, Charlie! Thank you so much for going another round this year my friend!
