2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I would be absolutely thrilled with the New England Whaler, or Old Reliable! 👍👍

NO PRESSURE !!! :eek::D

Sounds good Liam, I thought last years label was great looking.

OK, here's my $.02 worth: an 85 pattern GEC easy opener with ornate gimp shield and jigged bone covers, single blade with heavy stamp (like Galvanic's Eureka Jack), maybe something like "Old Reliable" on a fat spear blade.

OK, I'm done! lol

That would be nice, I think using the Eureka Jack frame would make for a great forum knife as well.

I'm very happy to hear about all who have stepped in to help again this year with the forum knife, it's sure to be another great one. Thank you guys for all the work that goes into making this happen.

New England Whaler, Eureka Jack, it doesn't matter to me! This is all very exciting, and a HUGE THANK YOU to Charlie and everyone else so selflessly involved in this endeavor. No matter what the end product, it's going to be wonderful; that much I know!!

THANK You so much Charlie, Barry, Liam and all the rest who've volunteered to make sure a 2015 Forum Knife comes into being. I really appreciate all the hard work and would love to help out in any way thats needed.

Now I'll be happy with whatever comes out of the process but I have to say it seems to me that if the stars lined up just right and GEC already happened to be planning to release a 3.5 - 4 inch Coke Bottle Pattern maybe we could piggy back on the production and get ourselves a real classic knife. Long pull spear and maybe even a pen or coping secondary? Rosewood or ebony scales with a federal shield. Sounds doable for under a hundred bucks. But them's just my 2 cents.

If we need to go with an existing GEC pattern I still cant get over the elegance of the 92.

Alright its just a wishlist. :)

I'm here every day, even though I don't post (or even log in most days). I don't feel I have much to add to the discussions, I'm here to mostly listen and learn. I upgraded to gold last year during the forum knife process, and I'll update that status this year even if I don't end up with this year's choice. One thing I have to ask, though. Not trying to be an &%$# or anything, but what is the fascination with the caplifter/screwdriver thing? I work with tools, and I have used the screwdriver on a TL29, but basically what I see is a screwdriver for straight slot screws that aren't or don't need to be really tight. And I grew up in Wisconsin. I could open a long neck bottle without a dedicated implement by the ripe old age of 13. Is it just that it affords an opportunity to pull out your pocket knife and use it for something? That I can understand, I guess. But I only reach for my pocket knife if I have to strip a wire or actually cut something. Anyway. forgive me if I come off as questioning something everyone else finds perfectly logical. And I hope this year's FK, whatever it happens to be, comes off as well as last years. Thanks to everyone involved, and I'll be in the shadows, waiting patiently for further news.

Mainly it's extremely handy on a knife! Yours is more of a practical question and these knives do represent another time in our history as well. For those of us that don't have a job where tools are quite so handy, this fits the bill. Also maybe some of us want to carry a knife that has been modified or personalized to fit our way of life.

I find the caplifter blade comes in handy for opening paint cans and prying, and is also handy for tightening those slotted screws that constantly shoot loose on my single action six shooters and lever guns. Oh! And also for de-capping micro brews.

I'm new to the Traditionals forum so don't have any knowledge base to draw on. That said, a cap or crown lifter along the lines of the GEC # 15 seems like a good idea. Just a nice pocket knife to have for barbecues and those summer evenings when you can sit outside and pop a couple bottles of beer. Another idea would be a knife like the GEC #65 Fish Knife, but with a blade and bolsters that could survive saltwater. Not 440C, nor H1 which might be too pricey. But there must be something in between. NC680(?) or something like that? ...Lone Wolf used to use it on one of their folders.

But coming from Connecticut, and having spent a good deal of my youth along, on and in Long Island Sound, a New England Whaler has a great appeal as well. Though I'm not sure I'd find much use for the blade style other than for slicing blocks of cheese, a task at which I think it would excel. Nevertheless a cool pattern.

Hey everybody I'm new to all this forum stuff and saw this thread about the forum knife. How does this work? Who is eligible to buy one?

What about a Toothpick in Smooth Ivory Bone with California clip and cap lifter secondary on the #12 Frame? Oval shield. Dreams...

Anyone can buy one at the appropriate time.

...It will take a while to get some information from the cutleries.

There is no hurry right now, so I will start another thread when we get closer to choosing time. In the meantime, the discussion here is enjoyable, and gives me some inspiration. As we did last year, I will try to extract some ideas from your comments, fold neatly with knives any manufacturers are willing to offer, put the ideas into a budget (less than $100) baking pan, and hope it all rises to the top!!!

Keep a lookout on the Traditionals forums, rbeggs! I'll bet we see a new thread from Charlie (Waynorth) later in the Spring.

...what is the fascination with the caplifter/screwdriver thing?

My 2 cents, et10: It is really useful, and has saved me a lot of time searching a drawer or closet or tool chest. To just be able to pull a screwdriver or bottle opener out of my pants pocket is extremely convenient. And yes, it does just give me an excuse to use my knife more often. :p And it's a great conversation starter! I bring out my Radio Jack whenever there are bottles to be opened. The innocent bystanders ask to see it. I offer up another knife to keep the conversation going. Before you know it, traditional pocket knives is the topic of the evening as my wife rolls her eyes! :p

Which brings us to another great idea for a 2015 forum knife:
