2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Personally, I can't really carry a fixed blade, so I would prefer a slippie. Though if it were a small, cheapish, interesting fixed I would consider it.

But, I think that one thing that needs to be considered is that even though the forum is called Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades, the vast vast majority of threads are on folders. I don't even think there is a thread in the first couple of pages dedicated to fixed blades. I think the demand for a slipjoint forum knife is probably much higher.

That being said, I do love a cool fixed blade, but it will definitely be more of a gametime decision for me than a slippie.

Typically someone brings up a fixed blade every year, at least for the last 4-5 years, it never gets far and ice never seen one listed as a poll option. The fixed blade is fantasy for now but we can always dream... :)

If we went with a fixed blade, I'd sure like it to be something small and pocket-able like a Bark River Little Carver.

Still pushing for a punch peanut, though. :)

Well, my opinion the last few years was about to a fixed blade. I´d also like to see a pocketable one - maybe something in the size range of the CASE Lil' Devils. What´s not to like on that ones?

Aside from the logistical and planning difficulties, are there any other problems with having a forum folding knife and a forum fixed knife?

I know that it means another person will have to step up and all that jazz, but I think if there's a market it could be an option. Unless it is a problem with the moderators and/or Spark.

Just tossing it out there...

Cap lifter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would sure be cool if Canal Street could make up some Sharp Fingers in 1095 just like the old Schrades but with some nice bone or wood on the handles. Would even be made in what used to be the Schrade factory which adds to the nostalgia I think. :)

That is a real cool idea Ulysses!

By the way, I don't thing the new Taylor/Schrade has an exclusive on the Sharpfinger design any longer (if ever); Bear & Son makes one in stainless, there are the off-shore Taylor Schrade's, and lots of variations of other off-shore brands mimicking the design (saw quite a few at an outdoor show this past weekend). OH

Ps If we got a Blade Forum gift box like these old Schrade's you could have your cake and eat it too (or have your fixed blade and a folder too) - it's only money! Just use your imagination - Blade Forum logo in place of the old Schrade Logo, the words "Traditional Fixed Blade" over the fixed blade and "Traditional Peanut" over the little folder!

Some ivory micarta handles would be pretty slick on these. :D

Cap lifters are fine, but there's already been a forum knife with one.

How about a eureka with a punch/awl?

Or of course, a peanut. :)

I'd rather see a punch than a caplifter, too.

I am very glad that my idea of a PunchNut or even an Eureka punch are gaining acceptance!!

My concerns for a fixed blade is that I don't like most "traditional" fixed blades. I don't like separate guards and pommels, not a big fan of most handle treatments. If it was a fixed blade, I would need it Puuko like, or something guard less like the BarkRiver bird and trout offerings. But then those designs are not quite Tradidional. Could a Nessmuk/Kephart/Puuko/sharp finger be well done specially for us? Yes. Would there be enough of a consensus this year- I'm not sure. While I would like a fixed blade from the forum, it so is a rare topic and to me doesn't quite fit the mould. But the talk is great, it took a couple of years for the Congress Jack (in my pocket right now), and I've been adding my two cents about a possible punch inclusion (PunchNut specifically), for two years and it seems to be gaining ground. Maybe if enough concerted effort is put into a fixed blade I'll throw my support in. Of course only after my agenda is satisfied!! Of course! ;)

Sharpfinger too small? Maybe a traditionally designed Bowie - something on this design? Perfect for mounting over the mantle in the log cabin on the back 40. OH

I know I'm relatively new here, but still wanna throw my two cents. I would love to see something like a Barlow with main blade a standard clip, and secondary as a punch. I love me some stag, but open to any scale. I think it would be unique while still having good utility value.

Oh, and on the fixed blade thing....I'd be open to purchasing multiples and/or a package. Maybe I'm just drawn to the odd or cute, but something like the Boker Fitz Stag comes to mind as something I'd jump on.

Now I really love this idea!! Man that would be such a nice setup right there with the gift box and all. :) Schrade made a pretty cool little peanut sized knife that would fit the bill to but it was only a single blade. 12OT
