2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I actually think that this format is probably a best case scenario. Have one person that is highly regarded and widely respected design the knife with input from the forum members. As has been mentioned, Charlie has not yet created a dud to the best of my knowledge. Threads like this will allow him to gauge the wants of the forum and get his creative juices flowing and he can create another masterpiece. It's a win/win for us and him. He gets some creative freedom and we end up with a great knife that we got to influence.

+1. 👍

I have the last 5 forum knives, since the start of the BladeForums dot system (love that). I have always been very happy with the polls and the way in which the knife was chosen, reflects the will of the members. I personally collect and carry 2 blade jacks, but, will buy the forum knife regardless of what is chosen. I believe that someone mentioned a eureka jack, that would be great, especially in ebony.

It seems I remember that someone posted there would be a poll for last year's forum knife, yet I never did see it. I was surprised at the choice for the 2014 knife, since I don't recall much input for that style. In any event, if the choice really rests with just one person, then perhaps the 2015 knife should just be an SFO. If the goal is under $100.00, then the choice(s) are simple, a single blade high quality folder, or if one wants lots of bells and whistles, multi-bladed, etc, then less than a hundred dollars will buy you a lot of disappointment.

There was a pole. The process did not rest with one person. I can't help it if you don't remember it. But your constant criticism of the 2014 process is not appreciated.

Last year there was an effort to keep the price somewhere around $80. Knife companies were contacted and asked to submit designs at that price point. Queen declined. GEC and Canal Street each submitted a design. The forum voted on which design was more desirable. This kept the process simpler and reduced the whining the compared to that of previous years from people who did not get their way in the various poles.

If you don't like the forum knife, whatever it turns out to be this year. Don't buy one.

6 (2) blade knives, 2 (3) blade knives and 1 (1) blade knife, 0 fixed blade knives.

Fixed it for you (assuming you were counting the Forum knives).

Scale materials to date:
Stag (4)
Jigged Bone (2)
Ebony (1)
Micarta (1)
Mammoth Ivory (1)

I would love to see us build a jiggeg bone whittler with CPM154 or ATS-34 stainless steel.

Any support for acrylic scales, or there just too many variations to get a consensus?

Thanks, my memory isn't what it used to be. ;) I really want to do a spec sheet with a set of pics for each knife, listing the price and total count for each forum knife, IIRC the first knife we had 38 made and last year's knife topped 350 I believe. We've come a long way since the first knife in 06 and I'm so happy that Charlie and everyone else is on board for another year's knife.

You guys know anything I can do to help make your jobs easier let me know.

2007 - 57 cannitlers
2008 - 50 stockmen
2009 - 113 barlows
2010 - 131 moose
2011 - ??? easy openers
2012 - ??? wharncliffe trappers
2013 - ??? congress jacks
2014 - 350 stag jacks

Thanks that's a start, at least I have it filed for future reference. :)

Spark should be able to give to total numbers for the 2012 & 2013 since he did the purchase. I'm pretty sure the 2013 was around 150, less than the 2012 numbers.

2012 was 262 pieces, 2013 was 173 pieces, and 2014 was 354 pieces, according to GEC production totals.

Which brings us to another great idea for a 2015 forum knife:

Just going to bump this again - lots of love for the caplifter lately. Seems like a great candidate for an interesting, quality <$100 knife.

My first post in this thread:

Since the title of this sub-forum is "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" perhaps a fixed blade knife would be a good choice for the 2015 Forum Knife as suggested by others.

Cap lifters are fine, but there's already been a forum knife with one.

How about a eureka with a punch/awl?

Or of course, a peanut. :)

I like a caplifter, but it's been done

Trying to picture in my mind if an EO Eureka would look ridiculous or not.
