2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Ok... Then we would have a Gun-Punch-Nut or a Punch-Nut-Gun, or...?!?! :p

But honestly I like the idea of a Gunstock, small sized with a punch secondary ...

Let´s see what the majority is thinking.

The magnum was my first choice for the idea of punch and small- but the nut seemed so much more ubiquitous around here! But I do support the small gunstock more as it fits my tastes, and we can finally have a two blade gunstock that has the gunstock frame uncluttered by the second blade when using. A fold over SAK style punch could hug the frame. One complaint I've seen about two blade gunstocks.

Regardless, I will keep being the small knife with a punch pusher!!
The small metal Wharncliffe with punch started it all off- a whole $1 at a garage sale!!

Gun-punch?

+1  to adding a punch to a smaller existing frame idea. We haven't had a punch, and it's been a while since we've had a peanut size knife.

If we haven't had any acrylic covers, this might be the one to do it on. Maybe tortoise shell?

I wanted a stockman with a punch but I think this sound good also.

As I recently discovered with my Vic Pioneer, punches are incredibly versatile tools. The can be used for boring holes in wood, scraping things like carbon, chipping out something encased in ice, anything that you want a sharp and sturdy metal tool for but don't want to use your finely honed knife edge on. I think someone even used it for putting a hole in a leather belt once!

Absolutely. In fact, I think the awl on my SAK's has been my second most used tool (when present), after the bottle opener/flathead. It's a brutal, no-nonsense, useful tool, saves my knives for cutting.

loosening knots; light prying; scraping........

Man, I'm really wanting that punch-nut. Kris, that's a neat equal-end-jack with punch you have. I could go for that in acrylic....

I really like the small metal Wharncliffe with punch that CUTS LIKE A KRIS posted.

Perhaps something with with wood scales we could call it a w-awl-nut.

Ignorant question, but what do you all use a punch for?

Thanks for asking. I was too embarrassed to ask, but I've always wondered.

The punch/awl is the least used blade/tool on my knives. I know this simply points out my lack of imagination. Single blade knives now make up the majority of my collection, simply because I don't like unused extras.

I think that untying knots is all I've ever used it for.

I used the punch for making holes in leather or inner tube for slingshots more than anything growing up.

I'm for a swayback...

This is exactly what it is for. Making holes in leather, etc. I like the idea for a forum knife as it would be a very useful tool.

I've been on a hunt for a decent gunstock pattern for a good long while. (Really hoping Northwoods would make a version!) Adding a punch would certainly make it unique!

I know it's been done, but I still really like the cap lifter. Main blade and cap lifter at one end with a punch at the other end in the same space as the cap lifter.

The 76 frame is not unlike a Gunstock.

My hopes still rest on an 82 Dixie frame or an 81 Abilene, single-spring Clip master, small Sheepfoot secondary in smooth bone Surveyor style pattern. Why? Because we have not had a single-spring two blade knife before, not had smooth bone and the Surveyor is a rare pattern yet is has useful blade combos. Let's make that 440c another first. :D Just sayin...

Regards, Will
