2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

If the punch was made longer, the base could be carved out to make a caplifter. Instead of a screwdriver-caplifter, a punch-caplifter. A punch-lifter!

Okay. Just one last suggestion for y'all that should make everyone happy: A French Kate (lady Leg) with clip and punch. You can open your bottles with the shoe. Call it a Kick-Punch.

Some creative ideas here to get your favorite tools into a knife. But I'll suggest, as I have in the past, that a lot of folks could scratch all their itches by just considering a SAK (or a scout/camper pattern if SAK isn't traditional enough).

I've been on a hunt for a decent gunstock pattern for a good long while. (Really hoping Northwoods would make a version!) Adding a punch would certainly make it unique!

I like that a lot. I'm all about the punch, as long as it fits on the pattern it's an unendingly useful tool.

Please no congresses, whittlers, #15s, #77s, #85s, or any of the other previously used/more widely available patterns.

I don't know why everyone wants a caplifter- I just use the back of the main blade with the knife open or closed.

Hmmm..... I like the punch/caplifter idea. The mechanics are there to make it work, so why not??

I guess we end up with a PunchGunLifter????

YYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS

Maybe extend the punch just a bit, if possible. But that looks amazing, I am 100% for that knife!

EDIT: Also, I love match strike long pulls. Why not throw that in? Looks good, and they do work... In a pinch.

Funny story (well, for me, I wasn't the monkey that got cut....): I was working a tradeshow with a buddy in LA last year. He did that trick on a bottle cap, while talking to a group of people, and sliced right across his finger. I think it took 5 stitches, but he was more ticked (and embarrassed) from the blood on his new $800 sport coat. Lesson learned - I now bring a #15 caplifter with me whenever I travel.

That is pretty awesome. I would buy that. Would look really cool as a coffin or swell center too.

One year something completely obscure would be cool, like a sunfish or hawkbill or something.

What was the price point again? New pattern plus two blades (ala the illustration above) should make for a knife in the $125+ range.

Edit: Assuming GEC takes it on again and not another company, who in the past have seemed a little reluctant to do so. GEC has the 76 pattern, but it will more than likely be larger than some are wishing for.

Still pulling for something on the 92 frame.

The 2014 was a new frame, single blade, donated stag, ~$75. Assuming that it won't be stag and that the order quantity will be similar (it'll likely be larger, if possible) I'm guessing more like $100-$110. That's super reasonable, compared to other GEC SFOs.

Then again, I have no idea. At $125, it'd have to be real nice.

I have to ask a question: Is there even a point to these 37 pages of ideas and debate? Like, does it even have the slightest impact on the design? Even if we had 100% consensus would it even matter?

From what I recall about last year's process: Charlie contacted a few manufacturers and had them submit their ideas of what a forum knife could look like. Was our input even passed along beforehand? I'm totally fine with that either way, by the way.

I just think it's funny that we're all offering our wish list when it's possible it won't be considered by the designers at all.

One of the organizers can please correct me if I'm wrong here...

From what I recall about last year's process: Charlie simply contacted a few manufacturers and had them submit their ideas of what a forum knife could look like. Our input wasn't fed beforehand. I'm totally fine with that, by the way.

I just think it's funny that we're all offering our wish list when really it won't be considered by the designers at all.

Really? I was already picturing my punch gun lifter in my pocket. That is disappointing.

I'm pretty sure this is how it worked. We just voted on our favorite after the designs were submitted by the manufacturers. Again, I'm totally fine with that.

OMG you've shattered all our hopes and dreams!

I think at this point we've all made it somewhat of a joke if you couldn't tell. :p

Just don't want anybody to get too disappointed if the punch gun lifter isn't heeded...

:)

Though I would be interested to know, if an organizer could confirm, if any of our ideas here are passed along to a manufacturer beforehand. Or is this all just an exercise?

Man, was really looking forward to a drunken sheep puncher gun lifter. Guess it was too good to be true.

Whether or not ideas get passed along to a manufacturer, I think it's VERY interesting to hear and discuss fellow members' opinions. Shoot, I hate to think how many evenings I've hung around with friends, shooting the breeze about this or that topic, with NO expectation that our discussions would actually make a difference outside of our little group. As always, YMMV. :D
