2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Maker doesn't matter to me. I just want a good product. If it's GEC again, that's fine. If it's Queen, Case (which it won't), CSC, Buck..... that's fine too.

Canal Street makes a fantastic product and I'd love to see them get the recognition around here that they deserve. They are just usually held back by their limited number of patterns that they currently make. They did make a gunstock when they first got started though so that may be an option with them. :)

I have been trying to stay out of the discussion, but have been enjoying some of the proposals that have been put forward!

The history we have created with these Forum knives has taught us a few things. Everyone wants a good quality knife, at a reasonable price.
We need to keep the price under $100, including domestic shipping.

The hard part is getting competitive bids! We used to have three companies who would try to meet our requested specifications, but I am hoping at least two will stay in the game. Other companies have been proposed, but they are either not flexible to our needs, or we didn't feel we'd get the quality we wanted. You folks are a tough crowd!!:D

Our choice of pattern depends to a large extent on what the factories are willing to make.

Last year, a talented hafter (knife finisher) at Canal street actually made an all-stainless prototype, which became Eric's Jack, but didn't get enough votes to become our first stainless BF knife in a while.

Since GEC was proposing to make a #77 sized jack, they offered to move it up in the schedule, and mark it PPP on our eventual choice of knife.
I doubt we are going to get free Stag this year though - that was an incredible gift from John Lloyd!!

So, it worked rather smoothly last time, asking the cutleries to propose a knife that they could make economically and elegantly, and then we decide if we like them, or at least one of them.
Last year Queen wouldn't bid. They were too busy!
I haven't broached the Forum knife subject with either Canal Street or GEC, or Queen for that matter, for a while. I think it's time I got the ball rolling. Unless someone objects, I will start to talk to them.
I will ask them to look through this thread if they want a hint, but that is a daunting task!! As I well know!!

I just received another Queen Gunstock in the mail today and this one also has excellent fit and finish. ;) Ignore my messy desk I just opened it up and snapped a few real quick pictures.

Well Jake, I can't argue with you at all. We have the same name, I like the gunstock pattern for the BF knife and I'm wearing my "shark tooth" Seiko monster as well.

Now please tell me that you don't want any caplifter with this knife.....

That's my new watch that I'm trying to size right now which is fairly difficult compared to other watches i own! I don't like the caplifter idea personally. I like single blades and would love to see a gunstock with single spey blade but doubt that would happen. :) If it was going to be 2 blades then Clip and coping would be my choice or spear and coping something along those lines. :)

Sorry to get off topic a bit, please I would like to know how can I get on the waiting list to order this BF knife ? Sorry for the detour. Thanks everyone. Dan

There is no waiting list yet. It is still in the very very beginning stages. Right now we are still in the people just posting random ideas of what they wish the knife would be. :) You will just have to keep your eyes peeled and wait for Charlies official thread.

No waiting list; when the knife has been produced a message/thread will be posted, then first come first served.

Thanks you, I'm looking forward to it, I'm sure whichever model is chosen, the final product will be awesome.

Just an idea..... I've really been wanting to see some corn cobb jigged bone. Maybe that's something different to consider for a forum knife.

If we end up mixing corn and a gun pattern together, I'm calling it the Corn Cannon

Bear with me, I'm a bit slow sometimes. What does WLST stand for?

Right there with you.

What Does WLST® Stand For?

Weird Little Stubby Thing

All royalties go to Pertinux who has the registered trademark.

Yes! It all started in Charlie Campagna's estimable thread, What Makes A Good Traditional Barlow?, in which he presented scans of his traditional barlows of yore and then slowly but surely unveiled the on-going development of what would become the #15 TC Barlows.

When it was clear that new, 3.5" barlows were indeed in the pipeline, puukkoman did say, and I quote:
I'm really looking forward to these, too. It's exciting to see GEC produce a REAL barlow, instead of that weird little stubby thing they've been making.

And off we went! So, Alex/puukkoman gets original credit, but as pmew notes, I jumped on the trademark right away. To whit:
Of these Weird Little Stubby Things®, I'm going with the one in the middle.

... I've recently discovered the amazing function of the curved punch as found on this little Colt below. For a cheap knife, this punch is sharp and makes perfect round holes from small to large. Found use for it on many occasions. Quite handy, and unique in terms of the number of popular folders I've seen it on. I think it would be cool to see it on a forum knife. For something a little different.

That looks just like the punch Victorinox uses on certain alox models. And, I agree - it creates perfectly round holes. It's made by forming a sheet of metal v/s milling & grinding like GEC has done. Bending the sheet stock gives it the naturally round back side, and the lip left behind makes it easy to lift with your nail.

Didn't GEC make a folded Victorinox style punch for Charlie's Teamster Jack?

Sure did!
