2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Ah, I thought a wharncliffe was typical on half whittlers but clip or spear is infinitely preferable - clip and pen or clip and coping would be ace!

Any chance of that patina too :D

Haha! I've heard gently simmered apple cider vinegar does a respectable job of providing an initial patina!

I like that a lot! Do it with long pulls; maybe thread the bolsters...But just like it is would be good to.

I love the single spring two blade direction! Long pull with a spear main and wharncliffe secondary.....

I keep going back and looking at this whittler (the bottom knife), and thinking, it'd make a great single-spring two-blade, (to wit, a half whit!):D

That's beautiful Charlie!

Just look at that jigging, that shield! What a stunner!

You know pocket knives better than anyone I've ever read, just ignore all our crazy requests and do what you do best, Charlie.

:)

I had a goofball brainwave this morning whilst brushing my teeth: What about an office knife?

Now, I have since discovered that my memory was playing tricks on me, and the old Schrade office knife I had in mind was actually a spear and a spey, so the idea has lost some of its lustre. But! My original thought was: #68 frame, which has been done as a stockman previously, with just the sheepsfoot and spey blades on one spring. So the tooling already exists, mostly. You could build it as a shadow pattern in white smooth bone or some kind of synthetic done up like "french ivory" (celluloid) if there's such to be had.

It would be a good size, light, affordable, and like nothing you can get today.

These knives were almost a dime-a-dozen back in the '60s and '70s. This one by Camillus probably dates to that time, although it wouldn't surprise me if it was 1950s vintage.

They were cheaply made and can be found at just about any junk or antique shop today.

I think the handle covers are plastic "faux Micarta." This is the usual model, but some had the name of a business printed on them instead of "Office Knife."

I don't know if anyone is still making this sort of knife, and it is a little late to seriously look at it for this year's forum knife. But maybe it could be a future knife, with "Blade Forums" in place of "Office Knife." It could be done with quality materials, sort of a new, high quality take on what was originally a ubiquitous cheap tool for the desk drawer.

I like looking at Whalers/Toenails/Sunfish knives, but it's hard to imagine EDCing one. They are very broad! How about an elephant on a diet??

(with thanks, but no permission from 1fartsmella):p

As long as one of those blades is a punch I'm in!! I'm not pulling my punches on what I want this year!!!!

That's the stuff! (Though the Camillus one seems smaller than the others I've seen.) I always feel a little sad when I see one of those cheap little shadow-pattern pens in a junk shop -- they're almost always wrecks. I guess it's not a very durable way to build them? But I figured folks around here take better care of their knives than most.

Ah well, I agree the conversation this year is quickly converging on a half-whittler anyway.

Or course I like the single spring opposite enders.:) Large heavy spear and a heavy sheepsfoot or old time spey opposite end sleeveboard,no catch bits, lots of swedge.

S W E D G E is cool. About 3 3/4"..

I'm in....

I would love an equal end. Sleeveboard is my second choice. Fancy bolsters or swedges are gravy. I'm just happy we are seriously talking about the single spring, two blades! 👍😃

I am loving this idea. This has been my hope for this year's knife from the beginning of the process for this year's knife. I even mentioned a two blade single spring either here or the GEC thread or both.

Well let's start getting this ironed down...I'm in for the single spring sleeve board or equal end as well.

I like it a lot. Based on sales(my oppinion on it anyway) of the GEC 79 single spring, the spear is a slow seller. If it was more streamlined then it would be presidential-esk. My vote is for clip main with a stout, stockman style coping blade secondary :)

Sound delicious.

My vote is for a case slip-joint of some kind, maybe a peanut. I don't know about you fine gentlemen but I just love that traditional look and feel. God bless you and God bless the United States of America.

Single spring sleeveboard, jigged bone scales, long pull spear main, pen second, swedges, SUNK JOINTS!!!

What about a matchstrike pull?

I love the sound of this! The 68 frame would also be great (if GEC).

Maybe with smooth, undyed bone scales?

With a federal shield and plain bolsters like the below?
