2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Watching what happened last year and looking at it this time round, I can't help but feel like Canal Street have earned the right.
All of the above, "Plus" if memory serves, they are working out of the old Schrade USA shop, with some of the original cutlers?

Just bumping this to the next page.

Sorry if the information is slow in coming! The Case executive I have to talk to is still traveling. I may not speak to him before the Oregon show this weekend coming.
True to form, Canal street has offered an actual prototype!
They do beautiful work, but are less flexible than GEC (who do a lot of in-house engineering) I asked them to propose a knife, suggesting that a single spring two-blade might be the ticket, along with our under $100 final cost requirement.
Here it is!

A little different, and pretty nice!!
I believe they will offer stainless or carbon, and I don't know the wood yet.

Bringing it forward with a couple of extra notes:
>Other shields are definitely optional!
>They are also offering a sample with bolsters - to be finished today!

This is very exciting, Charlie! I look forward to seeing it with bolsters.

My vote is for bolsters, but no shield, or a very simple shield without letters or writing, and no etch. Like last year.

Hope we get something from Case, GEC, and/or Queen. But this prototype alone is very exciting and worthwhile! I would love a CSC forum knife!

For those unclear on the length, I believe it is near 4". Not dainty at all!!

Charlie, the Canal Street is terrific (got my favorite two blades on it too!) Great job sir!! OH

I like the idea of a shadow pattern in wood, especially if around 4" closed. I've pushed for wood and shadow in the past, and slim 4" is great carrying length for me, the GEC Executive Whittler being a prime example. Putting my wishes for a punch aside as much as I can of course!! 😉

My concern is if the pattern is around the 3 1/2" range, as if it is it competes very closely with this Boker Whittler, and I would want decent upgrades from the BF version before shelling out around $60 more for this model. The Boker uses good steel, good wood scales and three blades for $40 or so.

I'm interested in how different the companies will present. I like this, especially as presented, for a first jumping off point!!

(Now split that spring, add a punch, keep it slim and shadow under $100 with a special shield (please no clouds), and I'm much more interested!!!)

Thanks for the update and all of the hard work Charlie!!

That CSC is beautiful and I would be happy to own one.

What Wook said.

In Stainless? Pretty Please with sugar on it?

Hey folks! A few specs on that Canal Street knife:

- 4" closed
- That's bocote wood on the proto, could do cocobola as well, maybe makassar ebony. I wouldn't recommend chestnut on a shadow, it's too soft.
- I need to do a little convincing with the powers that be regarding the shield, but I'm shooting for old school through pinned.
- Steel will have to be either 440C or 1095
- Blade choices are what you see, I believe the nail mark on the sheepfoot can be put on the opposite side without any trouble if that's what the majority wants.

Looks awesome! I'm interested in bolsters ....... but preferably non-slanted. But I'm sure I can be persuaded.

4" ..... wow. Any chance of a comparison pic with a standard knife we all know.......say a 15 or something of the sorts? There really is no such think as too many pictures.....right?

That CS is STUNNING!! I would be in for two regards of steel (both of CSs steels are good) or shadow/capped. Nice work!
Thanks to all who have gotten us this far!

Two years in a row they have been the first to step up.
Two years in a row they have been the only company (so far) to produce an actual prototype.

They're preparing a second prototype with bolsters for our viewing pleasure and they've offered either carbon or stainless blades.

I expect that other companies (two spring to mind) will produce great knives too but I just wanted to say that I think CSC deserve it. They've pulled the finger out where others haven't yet.

Just my tuppence worth. :)

I'm too new to this sub-forum to speak to past years, but I have to say that based on what I've seen here, I would love to get my hands on a Canal Street Blade Forums knife

That CS offering looks very good. If they could get the sheepsfoot blade to sit a little lower & sink the joints it would be really elegant and very pocket friendly.
Single spring -two blades, slim & trim.

Eric,

Good on you!
I would be thrilled with a knife like this
For me, I would look no further and accept this as an offer
Canal Street deserve it

I would be very happy to finally have a 440C SS blade

Cocobola or makassar ebony are fine woods
