2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I love that CSC! Would prefer bolsters, and would really like D2, but I understand it isn't possible.

I still would love it though.

since I have experience with the edgeholding CSC 440C has with their HT from last year's "Eric Jack", I would have no problems with carrying the proto as it is set up.

My inconsequential vote goes to the CSC as pictured, although any of the woods mentioned wood be fine with me. Bolsters or no bolsters, any shield that gets decided on, these won't make a difference to me. But just as pictured would have me getting out the credit card.

Really like the CSC offering. Its going to be another good forum knife year. I am an advocate for NO BOLSTERS. I like the exposed pins as shown....helps give it a clean and unique look. I appreciate the effort by those involved.

Just my worthless opnion: I think we should vote on the maker/style of the knife first THEN have a seperate vote for carbon or stainless. This will keep "I like this style with steel x only" from changing votes.
I will repeat my earlier statement that canal street really came through!

That prototype looks great. I'd prefer sunken joints and the secondary blade lowered a bit. As it looks right now I don't think the grip with the clip blade out would be super comfortable. If the secondary rode a little lower I think that would be a winner right there. Very nice.

+1:thumbup:

Dang that proto is pretty close to what I was hoping for about 50 pages back, but I so prefer squared rather than rounded ends dang!
But I would still get one IF they can get the sheepsfoot further into the handle, otherwise it will indeed be uncomfortable to hold when using the clip blade

Another shout-out to Canal Street for ramping up an amazing prototype. I'm definitely in if we end up close to where we are now with a two blade, single spring pattern. I'm all for the shadow version too - just a bit different in this format. Nice work everyone.

+2!! I got what I voted for last year, but I completely see the logic behind this suggestion.

Little Thursday Bump!

Sorry if the information is slow in coming! The Case executive I have to talk to is still traveling. I may not speak to him before the Oregon show this weekend coming.
True to form, Canal street has offered an actual prototype!
They do beautiful work, but are less flexible than GEC (who do a lot of in-house engineering) I asked them to propose a knife, suggesting that a single spring two-blade might be the ticket, along with our under $100 final cost requirement.
Here it is!

A little different, and pretty nice!!
I believe they will offer stainless or carbon, and I don't know the wood yet.

Bringing it forward with a couple of extra notes:
>Other shields are definitely optional!
>They are also offering a sample with bolsters - to be finished today!

For those unclear on the length, I believe it is near 4". Not dainty at all!!

Hey folks! A few specs on that Canal Street knife:

- 4" closed
- That's bocote wood on the proto, could do cocobola as well, maybe makassar ebony. I wouldn't recommend chestnut on a shadow, it's too soft.
- I need to do a little convincing with the powers that be regarding the shield, but I'm shooting for old school through pinned.
- Steel will have to be either 440C or 1095
- Blade choices are what you see, I believe the nail mark on the sheepfoot can be put on the opposite side without any trouble if that's what the majority wants.

Eric

I am assuming GEC is working on their bid, but what other company is for sure going to offer an option?

I appreciate the willingness of CS to build us a knife, unless something changes this year they are one of only two, so kudos to them.

Maybe I would feel different if I had it hand, but that secondary "Sheepsfoot" (looks more like a Sheepscliffe, maybe it's the angle?) blade just looks out of place on that knife. Looks like a Stockman blade, but that's not a Stockman knife.

I think it could make for a pretty slick Muskrat myself.

It looks like a stockman blade because that knife is pretty much their 4" serpentine stockman pattern, with the spey removed and the sheepfoot switched to the other side. ;)

Phil I agree with you on this. If Case would be progressive minded they could do the same thing and revive the 06247 for us. They could put in the original pen blade or simply do as CS has done with this prototype and turn the sheepsfoot blade from a 6347 around and make us a 06247 with a clip master and a sheepsfoot secondary, all on one spring. And then build it with the quality of the SBJ, now I would buy one of those
for sure :D

GEC is a great company and I own many of their knives. Unless we want them to become the only option remaining, I think we need to finally thank Canal Street for sticking with us, and to give them some visibility and business. The one CSC knife I own, the Eric's Jack, is a GREAT knife and is even in 440C stainless!

I personally dislike both wood handles and shadow patterns, but I sure love that knife design.

Well...... If a PunchNut isn't viable (which I hope it will be), I can totally get behind this design. I'd keep the Bocote personally so each member gets a figural cover in a traditional but not overused wood (cough...ebony...cough). I'd like to keep shadow, or tip bolsters- regular bolsters are just.... Regular. Sunken joints would really make this knife extra nice to carry in scrubs- what I'm in at least 5 days per week. The single spring makes it very attractive for this purpose as well! I'll even throw in for the stainless crowd- I have no problem putting aside my illogical dislike of 440C as this looks nice and thinly ground. My concern over CSC based on my experience was that they were "washed out" from buffing or such activities, but recent models shown here have seemed crisp and right. I like 4" slim users. This has piqued my interest. And what we get for final choice is ultimately what we get. Thank you CSC for the awesome contribution!

I do think we should wait to see what other designs are submitted. I'd still like to see a sleeve board with great jigged bone. Short of a sodbuster, I'm just not a big fan of shadow patterns.... I really like the CSC pattern submitted, but would really like to see bolsters of some type including tip bolsters.
