2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

Been a while since I have been here... Cool looking stuff. Have we decided on this type of pattern?

Thanks BF friends.

Great job Eric, nice slim profile now with the blade lowered and the shield compliments the pins nicely.

Todd, I think the consensus is for a GEC 15 Beerlow with a caplifter and wharncliffe in dead skunk acrylic.

Now we're movin' on to the 2016 knife.

It seems to be the top runner right now. It also seems to be the only submission right now. ;)
We are still waiting on submissions from Case and hopefully others, but I suspect this CSK submission will still be at the top.
FWIW, I think this knife without bolsters is sexy.

Hey Folks, got a little update for you;

I've done another sample with the sheepfoot lowered as requested (the nail mark would be on the pile side on the forum knife of course), and a pinned shield. This isn't necessarily the shield that would be used but it's all I had. Blades are satin finished on this one as well:

Nice work Eric  I just thought I'd move the pic on a little. Personally, I thought the blades looked OK on the first one, and I prefer the blade finish on the first knife, but I think it definitely looks better with a different shield

I do agree with Mike.
And I'm not a fan of single spring knives, not even far...but this is really beautiful.

Likewise Fausto

The lowered secondary and shield are real advances.

As for those clamouring for bolsters, consider this: no Forum Knife has been in Shadow form before, bolsters add weight, bolsters are dead common and this long sleek knife looks a lot better without them! The Bird's eye pivots give it appeal and strength aplenty. If they could get some nice stripey Zebra wood.....

Regards, Will

I can't wait to see them all, but CSC has hit one out of the park - as J.J. used to say, "dynamite"! OH

I really like all three changes Eric!
The lowered blade, satin finish and shield make this a knife I would buy. Can we see the second blade opened?

I would prefer micarta to wood on a shadow pattern, my gut tells me it will wear better.

Pardon my modern inclusion, but this shadow folder (my WharnKris1 design) has been my primary carry clipped folder for about four years I believe, and it's unstabilized Amboyna scales are none the worse for wear.

While I haven't carried the HSBC in the middle very much- one or more people has! And I've carried the Shadow Lloyd on the left a lot after Doug ADD saved it for me so I could purchase it, neither of which show adverse effects.

I'm not the least bit worried about a good quality wood being used in a shadow pattern, and it struck me that a lot of my Puukos are bare wood and very few have any damage either. But I do understand the concern- some people have better luck than others!

Looking good, and thank you for the work involved in this project. (I must have missed the measurements??). ;)

Appaloosa bone would be super, but what company has made it recently? I mean, who has offered a really great, classic Appaloosa bone lately?

I'm still thinking the other requirement should be affordability. At just over 70 bucks, this year's knife was a steal. Maybe the next one could likewise be kept under $100... Single blade is another preference of mine, which would keep the price low.

I agree very nice stuff Appaloosa bone, some one may be able to date this one from the poor photos from listing.

Oh, now you've just gone and polluted the water. That Case Barlow is "very" nice!
I believe I have mentioned on these boards somewhere that I have a soft spot for Barlow's. :)

Sorry to joke about your sincere question, Todd Isa. Seriously, as much as I love Barlows and caplifters and GEC #15s, it seems like the majority of our members want to use the forum knife as an opportunity for something different. Traditional, but different. Something that might not get made otherwise. Or something that is rare to see in production these days. Or at least different from previous forum knives.

The CSC prototype is the first we have seen, but Charlie is working on getting a proposal from Case, and there may be another CSC prototype to gawk at...

It seems as though the year is flying by. And although I love the conversation, I'm happy to let Charlie and his team make the call. If Charlie has a hand in it, I know I will like it. :)
