2015 Forum Knife - It's Never Too Early To Think About the Next Blade Forum Knife

I agree with oldtymer, I agree with Will and I agree with Jack.

Well said all of you :)

Here, here!

(However, if anyone ever decides to produce that gunstock pattern with punch I was so worked up about some pages back, I'd buy that. It doesn't have to be the forum knife...)

I'm still lobbying for the cap lifter too. It was mentioned that it's been done before. Okay, it was done once in '09 IIRC. Also, if they weren't super popular, you'd see a few of them on the secondary market. I've only ever seen one.
The 2011 Blade Forum Knife is a wonderful knife.
It has a main blade, and a flat head screwdriver caplifter secondary blade.

I'm more inclined to think a leather punch might be a good option this time around. ;)
Also, the 2011 knife has a bit of girth, but was well executed never the less.

Last years BF knife was based on the new #77 pattern..........I could be wrong, but since the new #38 pattern is out and GEC is in the running, that frame will probably be the 2015 BF knife.

Yes, I think a few people have missed the fact that this is quite a large knife, not a small penknife :)

I would buy one, but think that will adversely affect the chances if it goes up against something more like 3.5".
I know it will affect my vote if a smaller knife of similar design (one spring, two blades) is in the running.

Eric, I will take this as is: with any handle material, any bolster or non-bolster configuration, any blade steel, any shield or no shield, and any type of joint you care to make. This will be a classic pattern and highly sought after. Thanks for the great prototype. I'm sure most members here have furnishing preferences, but it's just such a great, classic pattern that I don't even care about the details. Thanks for bringing it to us and making not one, but TWO prototypes!!

Photo *Bump* 'cause it's just so darn awesome!! :):D:thumbup:

Hey Folks, got a little update for you;

I've done another sample with the sheepfoot lowered as requested (the nail mark would be on the pile side on the forum knife of course), and a pinned shield. This isn't necessarily the shield that would be used but it's all I had. Blades are satin finished on this one as well:

I'm a bolster guy. But.....gotta say, that knife is growing on me.

Stoked to see the other offerings.nbit sounds like it's gonna be tough to beat the csc.

I wonder if some have missed that this is also a subtle serpentine pattern. At first glance, one might think it is a smaller, equal end knife. That would be my preference, equal end, not a serpentine, and a little smaller, say 3.5".

I don't care for shadow pattern knives in general, but the idea of a shadow in micarta scales would have me on board in a heartbeat! I wonder if it could be offered in wood and micarta? Or would one be substantially more expensive than the other?

Here, here!

I agree. I thought that gunstock with the punchlifter was awesome. If it isn't produced by a company I may look into having it made for me as a custom, once funds permit (with permission, of course).

Eric, that looks awesome! Sleek enough I don't think the sunken joints would be an issue at all.

I like the serpentine personally over an equal end, but either could work. Bolsters I'm a little torn on, I'm not a huge shadow pattern fan, but I do like this just as it is. Another vote that says I'll buy one if it is made regardless of whether it's the forum knife. (or ya know, if Eric wanted to bust out another proto and let me know what he wants for it :D )

Even if this does not become the Forum Knife 15, I would want one of these updated CS Shadows in wood or micarta for sure! And I suspect I am not alone.....:D:thumbup::thumbup:

Regards, Will

If CS doesn't produce it for us and it becomes a dead end, I will have to scrape up the cash and have a custom made to that design.

Micarta has some momentum on this thread!
Yes it does, and don't get me wrong but to me Micarta belongs on a more tactical knife with locks and such, or even a bushcraft style of knife. That's not a bad thing, but I was under the impression we were after a traditional design here.

that's actually larger than I prefer to carry at work, but if it doesn't get picked for the 2015 knife, I sincerely hope "someone" asks them to do an SFO like last year.

Micarta has been used for knife handles for about 100 years. (I've never been able to find the first Micarta knife handles, but it was about 90-100 years ago.) So it has been accepted as fit and proper for traditional knives. In fact, 2013's traditional forum knife had ivory Micarta handle covers. So we might want to go for something different like red linen or natural canvas Micarta. Or maybe someone has a nice big stash of the coveted Westinghouse Micarta!

The first Micarta-like stuff was produced in the 19th century, but it was Westinghouse that began the large scale production in the early 20th century. They were looking for uses for the material, and knife handles were just one area where it was marketed.

I dunno, there's some pretty old fashioned knives that had micarta handles. Micarta predates the tactical trend, and some of the older customs that are currently residing in my safe (a friend inherited them) have quite handsome micarta scales.
