2015 Forum Knife Photos

I Just received my two knives and while nothing in life is perfect, I am very pleased. This has been a great experience and interaction with my fellow Forum members, from selecting the pattern, steel, and shield, to waiting (im)patiently for the knives to ship. Another hearfelt THANK YOU to Charlie, Barry, Eric, Liam, and everyone else whose work made this possible. I also extend my gratitude and apologies to the mods for putting up with our crap :D.

Wow! The grain in both of these really POP!!! Absolutely beautiful.

This is why Frank, in 10 years I've bought 10 knives, has any one been perfect? No, (well a few have ;)
A straight blade edge where the blade is supposed to be straight on a clip point ain't too much to expect. Let's at least be honest about that.

It would be different if someone other than CSC,(IMHO they didn't make much if any profit) was making money off the members but no one is. The entire (ad)venture was a labor of love by fellow knife enthusiasts and to hear negative comments about the knife we as a collective gave birth to is disheartening. I'm not saying you don't have a right to be satisfied but consider the effort that went into this and that on this end it was all voluntary and these folks gave up a lot of time and effort to get this knife to our door.

This thread isn't the place to nit pick, start your own thread and the issues get addressed there, worst case scenario put your knife on the exchange, it'll probably sell within an hour. Let these guys bask in the accomplisment they made and a the delivery of an annual knife before the end of the calendar year and for most before Xmas.

No one's taking away your right to gripe but these folks deserve our thanks no matter what 'cause without their effort and time last years Stag Jack would have been the last BFC Traditional knife.

Thanks again guys, I can't thank you enough and I'll thank you again when my knife gets here.

I think they all look really good, especially considering the guy grinding the blades probably knew he was out of a job after these were finished.
And I'd rather have a recurve knowing Eric ground it that way rather than let it leave with the blade hitting the backspring. I imagine he might have been under pressure from management to get these low profit knives the heck out of there.

Well said T.E.! As best I can tell, the annual forum knife is as much about bringing this community together to create something tangible from all the knowledge we share on these pages as it is about the actual knife. The knife is the culmination of discussions dating back to October of 2014 (http://http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1230721-2015-Forum-Knife-It-s-Never-Too-Early-To-Think-About-the-Next-Blade-Forum-Knife?highlight=never+too+soon), and it has been great fun to participate in its creation.

Nothing speaks of handmade better than imperfection.
Are imperfections the same as flaws?
Not always.:thumbup::)

Very well stated. This discussion should not consist of criticism of the people who put this together, the effort put into selecting the knife or whether or not someone affiliated with the forum profited from the sale of the knife.

As is always the case on the forum the discussion should be about the quality of the knife itself and how it performs. The discussion should be about the knife and should not degenerate into how it was produced, how much of a profit the people producing the knife made or not, and other extraneous issues unrelated to the knife.

Thanks to all the people who had anything to do with producing the knife.

I thought the forum was a place to comment about knives. What is wrong with commenting about a knife, positive or negative and whether you ordered one or not? There are numerous threads about SFOs from dealers registered here wherein people who do not own the knife, didn't order one, or have yet to receive one they have ordered commenting on the knife based on pictures or comments by others who have received the knife. Yeah it is the official forum knife but it should be subject to the same commentary rules about any other knife.

Nobody makes money on the forum knife. People volunteer their time and energy to make this happen. To me, that makes it different.

This thread was for folks to show their forum knives.
If somebody wants to point out flaws in their knife, that's up to them. If they are unhappy with it and want to say so, that likewise is up to them.

For somebody to make an issue about something they think they see in a picture of another person's knife and to have a fit over how horrible it is, is "nonsense".

I agree with you. If someone perceives a fault based on a picture without any comment or discussion from the poster that is rather presumptuous. Before commenting one should at least ask the poster some questions based on the picture before making a comment in order to determine whether or not what the picture appears to depict is an accurate representation of a possible issue or fault.

Great looking knives so far. My regret is that I was not in a position to buy one!

Keep the photos coming!

Well it looks like I've created a bit of a firestorm with my comments about the recurve and shields. I did not and do not minimize the work that forum members put into the project and I thank them for it. I simply commented on flaws already pointed out by others who have received their knives.

"I have received mine today. A little disappointed with it. The kick on the main blade was ground down to much and the edge is hitting the back spring."

"Mine arrived today. It's a very nice size and weight. The shield is a little wonky and the blade is ground to where it has a recurve. I like it though. Going to throw it in my pocket and use it."

Whats the deal? I thought this was a forum to discuss knives, quality. features etc etc. I participated in the forum knife process too and had fun doing it. I ordered a knife. Why should anyone take offense that I hoped to get one without defect? Is the fact that this is a forum knife preclude any discussion about the end result? Did I miss the memo that said I should just shut up and be a fanboy?

No picture yet, forgot to get batteries for the camera. The variety in the wood grain seen here is amazing.
That little bit of recurve in the clip blade allows for a nice sweeping belly to the cutting edge.I think it is there
by design and not a flaw.
just my opinion
Thanks to all whose efforts brought this together for us to enjoy.
Best wishes to all atCSC, your talents will certainly be missed by myself and countless others.

By all means discuss away, all I'm sayin' is this wasn't the thread for it. Every year the annual knife gets made there are always complaints, the big difference here is that what we get most likely either we're gonna have to deal with on our own or sell the knife. Maybe these types of threads should be worded like some I've seen, "Pictures only, make comments in another thread."

This is a knife discussion forum but this was more of an appreciation thread than a gripe thread, at least that wasn't the flavor of the thread, that's how I took it. Maybe I'm off base but that's my opinion for waht it's worth. :)

Of course this is a forum to discuss knives. And we are all a picky bunch.

I know that some of our members volunteered their time and efforts to make and distribute this knife. So even though I paid money for mine, it still feels like a gift. And to me it feels unseemly to complain about a gift, especially when you know that those who labored over it are reading your complaints. So we can be a bit sensitive when it comes to the forum knife.

That's my take on things, for what it's worth. Not that I'm saying don't discuss the flaws, just be aware why you may get resistance.

After all the negatives in this thread I doubt the regulars (Charlie, Barry, Eric, Liam, Frank, Gary, and others) who help bring it together will step up to coordinate a BF annual knife for 2016. Can't say I'd blame them for not wanting to.

................especially considering the guy grinding the blades probably knew he was out of a job after these were finished.

Snarky comments like the above quote about people at Canal Street implying that they purposely didn't do a good job aren't helpful either.

I ordered two for this very reason.

If something is 'hand-made', no two will be exactly the same.

I agree we shouldn't bitch too much about these. A lot of people put a lot of their time and energy into making these possible, and I appreciate every one of them. We really can't thank them enough. In the sticky thread I mentioned that I got mine, and it had a recurve on the main blade with uneven grind on one side and a nick where it hit the backspring. I could fix these issues myself easily enough that they won't have me putting this knife up for sale or trade. I bought it to use as a work knife, but I can't bring myself to take these nicer examples of cutlery to work. I'm just too cheap, I guess. I did mention in the same thread that it went into the safe, where the family will probably sell it at a yard sale when I end up dead. But then, it'll be in good company. The two stag forum knives from last year, the one from '13 and a couple other GEC's will more than likely be right there with it. Nothing personal. Just that I buy stuff and tend to hoard it thinking I'll have the perfect opportunity to use it some day. Someday might come before the post funeral yard sale, or it might not.

A couple more photos of my knife. The color is true on these and you can see the workmanship is excellent.

I my mind this is one of the most pocket friendly knives I've seen in a long time, and I wish CSC would be around longer to offer this with bolsters and jigged scales.

I'm real happy with this one. We did good! Thanks to all the BF members, to Charlie and Barry, to Liam, to Eric and Canal Street Cutlery. A truly wonderful knife!

Beautiful pics !

I did not order one of these this year, but, I think they ended up being a very handsome knife. :)

Those came out looking very good! I'm quite jealous.

I wish I could have bought one when they were for sale, but I had to spend my money on other things.

For now I'll drool at the pictures, and perhaps I can find one second hand when money is less scarce.
