Oh youth,

Back in the day my brother and I used to be really big in to working out. Its what landed me in my first security gig. I was 180lbs and could do double my weight in the majority of large body exercises.

The only advice I can give you MM is to slow down and listen to your body. I started noticing huge gains while working out between the age of 14 and 15, but I did not take the time to grow into my body. At the time I was doing free weight squats with 375 lbs and ended up going right through my knees. I was in pain for 5 years until my orthopedic surgeon started giving me injections. I get to take a 2 inch long needle under my knee cap, where they inject a gel to lubricate the joint and lessen the effects of arthritis. A few years later while doing shoulder-press my shoulder fell out of joint. I guess my body knew its limit before I knew it and ended up getting hurt in the process. Took me a long time to recover, and I'm still not 100 in my knees, shoulder, or elbows lol.

If my experience can help somebody else out

My younger cousin is doing the same thing right now. Hes 16, and just hurt his back for the first time. I gave him the same talk, and he started to slow down a little. I know its hard, because its the exact opposite of what you want to do (get huge :D).

My old saying was 'go heavy, or go home' and it worked... until I couldn't go heavy any more lol. Now I'm just a middle aged guy with a lot of joint pain haha.

I try to stay away from workouts that put strain on one place, like squats, and deadlift. I do leg presses and that seems to do the same thing.... I also try to stay away from incline and decline bench.

Muscle isolation ain't a bad thing. Just watch the amount of weight you use ;)

Good morning.

Getting things ready to get back in gear. Got a couple more files, more ferric chloride, more sandpaper and a few more belts, even got my steel ordered and order placed with the waterjet people. Running 60 Hex Hawks this time....41 are already spoken for though.

Want to run a couple full sized tomahawks as well.... Just dont want to hand file full sized bevels LMAO.... I do have another mini design im working on too..... But these things will have to wait. Im moving at the end of July so i dont want to start too many things and not be able to complete them before i have to start packing up to move. Between the Hex Hawks and the few stonewash/sharpening jobs here and there i should stay plenty busy until moving i think.

Morning!

Anything fun and exciting on tap today?

Swim meet this afternoon with my older daughter. Be working on some paracord projects. It's like I've turned into my mom. She was always knitting or doing something with her hands while she was at my hockey games, swim meets or soccer matches.

Now I'm just a middle aged guy with a lot of joint pain haha.
You, sir, have a couple decades until you'll start getting those damn AARP invitations in the mail. You probably won't even have snail mail when you're actually middle aged. I mean, a LOT can change in 20 years.....

Mmmm more pointy things is good WW

Lol Mike :P If that's the case I'm hoping to retire by the time I'm 'Middle Aged'. As long as my children don't bankrupt me along the way......

what he said.
When I was 22 I could bench 133% of my weight, one rep, at the top of a pyramid set.
One day I decided to go right for 150%. Guess what? I half-tore my left pec and will NEVER try to bench over 175lb again. (I weight 150lb then and now).

I've come to believe that the moderate-weight higher-rep high-intensity workout philosophy is a bit healthier. Sort of crossfit-style, but not quite so insane.

I'm in the same boat as TBL! I've already told my story though.

My cousin was a personal trainer for a while. He and I spent a summer working out together a couple years ago. It was interesting to see how he would guide people in working out. His philosophy was start with lower weight, higher reps. Then the next set was SLIGHTLY higher weight, but less reps. Repeating this until he was at 1 rep per set. It worked amazingly well for the summer I was out there.

that's how I used to do it in college.
pyramid sets for bench and curls. For me on the bench, it was (when I was 'burly'): 10@155, 8@165, 6@175, etc. to 200.
It DOES work, but when you get to the upper range it gets risky and g'dammit, HAVE A SPOTTER!

Once I weighed my push-up on a bathroom scale, and it's just about 2/3 of my body weight. So now I do sets of 20-30 push-ups instead. At one point I was doing sets of 50-75, but not in great form, and I wasn't doing much else because my life sucked. Now it sucks differently and my workouts are different :D

I think he went up 5 pounds, but only down 1 rep. But yeah, same thing for sure. It works. Right now I'm just working on cardio and endurance more than strength.

Morning Psyop! (forgot that last time)

This is me after lifting those growlers all weekend.....
