2016 forum knife ordering thread - SOLD OUT

I received my Drover yesterday, I think it turned out exceptionally nice.
I like the size, shape, blade, awl, and color and jigging of the scales.
The tube is a work of art in itself and is a nice bonus.
Thank You to the Craftsmen and Craftswomen of Great Eastern Cutlery, Charlie, Liam, Barry
and everyone who was part of making our 2016 Blade Forum knife a reality.

Agreed thanks indeed!!! What a testament to being a member of so long! I will pocket this with pride!!

Here's a quick group family shot I put together.

Ditto, although mine is missing the 2006 Ring Opener and my photo is much crappier.

To those of you having problems with the 2016 BF knife: please understand that this knife is not my sfo, and I had nothing to do with the manufacturing design or execution; I am only distributing the knife that was chosen by the BF members,

All member funds collected thus far, as well as a considerable investment of my own money, have been sent to GEC for the club knife, so no refunds will be available at this time, sorry.

Please wait until Charlie and Bill have a chance to discuss this issue with the punch blade when GEC re-opens this week, and we will see what the solution might be. Meanwhile, I am referring all warranty work to GEC and you will need to return the knife to them for any warranty work required; please do not send the knife to me for warranty work, as I am not a knife mechanic nor am I responsible for defects in manufacturing.

I apologize to all of you having this issue, but please be patient until Charlie and Bill have a chance to discuss the issue. We will do whatever is humanly possible to make everyone happy with their purchase.

This.

Please let's not punish Barry for stepping up to facilitate our habits.

For the record, mine has absolutely zero problems.

Thank you rbmcmjr!

So far, it doesn't seem to be that high of a percentage of the run having rub issues. From what I can decipher, it seems that the blade jams the punch against the liner binding it up on some knives. I am no knife mechanic, but I think a run through GEC's double header would cure the problem completely. The two I opened and looked over had no issues at all, and I suspect this is the case with most, but I apologize again for the issue, as it looks like you will have to ship your knives either to me or GEC, who will ultimately fix them or credit me, I assume.

Have the knives for those of us still waiting been made yet and just not shipped from GEC or are they still in production?

Not to worry Barry. We know you have no responsibility and I hope no members are giving you any grief. I'm sure most of us will wait patiently for Charlie and Bill to work things out. It's a little disappointing but not the end of the world. Lets all keep things in perspective. The knives are beautiful and problems will eventually be sorted out.

Beautiful knives, indeed! It also sounds like many of those with the sticky awl are working them out with flushing them out, oil and plenty of exercise! Mine did stick, but after reading about others working it out, I did the same easily enough. If others want to send theirs back to GEC for the fix, no doubt GEC will make it right!

I really hope that people are not giving Barry grief over any issues with this knife. I consider these knives to be one of the best things about participating in this forum, but they are not a right, they are a privilege. And they are a privilege that is only possible thanks to the work and effort and time of people like Barry and Charlie. I'm a relative newbie here on the porch, but I really feel deeply about these forum knives and I don't want the people who make them possible to regret the investment of their time, responsibility, and effort.

This will be my first forum knife and first GEC. I echo the sentiment of this post.

Barry, I'm sorry this is turning into a headache for you, and hopefully everything will be straightened out soon. I'm assuming the knives with problems can be tweaked to function as desired, and then we can all appreciate this amazing knife. I've been carrying mine since it arrived Saturday, and it's just great.

I am really enjoying this knife. First, it's a Bladeforums annual knife. Second, it's a single-spring, and for just a little extra weight, but without having to add another liner and spring, you get a 2nd tool, the punch. Third, the second bolster on the equal end lets you squeeze the knife out of a tight slip without wearing away the end of the scale. And finally, the equal end puts more meat up near the pivot, which fills my hand better when I grip the knife.

it definitely takes a patina quickly when paired with cheese. Mine is beginning to look 80 years cool.
