2016 GEC Rendevous Dates

Good stuff, P.! Looks like you're definitely prepared for the Rendezvous! (I used to have a Jeep similar to yours; sure do miss it sometimes. Anyways, I know the cargo space is limited, but I always found you could get more stuff in there by taking out the back seat entirely. Just sayin'. :D)

Thanks! As for the back seat thing? I am so down with that program, I preemptively instructed the Recon guys (who had removed all the innards when cleaning the Jeep in preparation for delivery) to not put the back seat back in, at all.

I toted it home in the back of my perfect car (my beloved Honda Fit) ahead of time, and stored it elsewhere from the get-go.

The Rendezvous sounds like a good time. It would be quite a trek for me (and I feel like I'd also want to bring a whole slew of knives, and certainly wouldn't trust them in a checked bag on an airline  , so it would have to be a road trip, and that's one long road trip), but maybe I'll make it up there one year.

That would be great! Me, I've moved from packing light to... bringing 'most everything as efficiently as possible. (Sigh? heh.)

I'm right pleased my personalized plate arrived in time for the trek, after a couple of delays followed by a successful appeal to PennDOT after my choice was initially declined:

See a passel of y'all soon!

Well everyone....I'm sorry to report that I can not attend the Rendezvous this year due to scheduling at work. I hope you all have a great time!!

No go for me this year. I had held out hope, but I've got to work Saturday. Maybe next year. Please take as many pics as possible. I'd love to meet Charlie and the rest of you guys.

I will be attending all three days, or at least that's the plan. Thursday and Saturday are for sures. I look forward to seeing Charlie and Sarah and hopefully Lyle shows up again!

Honestly guys, the knives are great, the history is cool, the entire process is amazing to witness, but the real draw is the people. Not just having the chance to talk to Bill and William Howard, but spending time with Christine who is just a fantastic person. The passion of the friends from this forum is awesome and getting to see their collections first hand is so appreciated! I'm far removed from being in the know anymore, but Charlie is as famous as it gets when it comes to these knives and Sarah retains so much information it's exciting just to hear her talk. Lyle and I got along very well and I was smitten with his collection.

Take the time and make the trip guys! I have for years and I keep coming back.

Heading out for Titusville in the morning. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday and Friday!

That's excellent, Duncan! Sounds like another great adventure!

I haven't been around much lately. It's just been a super busy summer. I added up our camping days and it's over 30 for the summer so that's where most of my time has gone, camping, planning for camping, and cleaning up from camping. Anyways, I'm about to wake up the kids to get them cleaned up and packed in so that we can head out to PA. My phone is telling me that it's just over 8 hours from here to there, so we'll be setting up camp just in time to get dinner cooked over a fire tonight. My dad will be joining us and we've got a site reserved from today through next Wednesday. I'll be seeing some of you tomorrow. :D I'm so excited, I can't hardly wait.

C/H<<< your ride sounds about like mine as I am heading out of here in about an hour and it is going to be about a 10 hour or so drive ahead of me but it should be a great end of the week and by the looks of it a good trip to take for the end of summer.* I am going to take my time though and enjoy all of the people along the way plus the all the new faces while I am there.
See you all on the sharper side.*

Wow, this is getting great! Except:

Aw, SNAP. I was looking forward to seeing you again, and gleaning from your enjoyment of knives I hadn't thought of yet. ;-)

Sounds great! See you soon.

[You are too kind.]

have fallen under the weather, might have to cancel :/

No, no, no. Sickness, schmickness. Get there. (I hope you can still make it-- I've been looking forward to meeting you, and thanking you in person for a certain blue knife.)

Ahhhhhhhhhhh - the "Three Amigos".

BOOM, baby. A most favorite, humbles-me trio, each knife and the impact of all three, for all right reasons.

I think they're mostly to remind me of what I already have, in the face of So Much More to Want? ;)

... I intend to hang out and actively enjoy my own selection of knives, in the midst of all the other pretties that will abound. I am long overdue for some intensive clicking and clacking and comparing (and wiping down, and spiffing, and, y'know, Having). Plus, there's nothing quite like seeing actual knives in person. I am grateful for everyone who brings knives to Show 'n Tell -- every knife an instant education-- so am Ready to return the favor.

[I don't part with my knives readily-- just ask Esnyx, heh-- but one never knows....]

Excellent posts P

S'anks!

off for final packings and disembarkments.

Due to ongoing medical issues, I have had to cancel. I will certainly miss seeing all of my Friends. Enjoy!

I won't be there this year either...gotta work. :(

Have fun everyone, and Sarah, be careful just who you hand your knives to... ;)

Sorry Sarah! I was looking forward to it but unfortunately, work won't pay me to go lol. How dare they, I'm filing a grievance!

My wife's birthday is Friday. She wasn't buying that a weekend at the GEC Rendezvous was a great birthday present. Says a lot for my powers of persuasion! Maybe next year....
