If this knife doesn't have grooves, it will not separate itself from the standard 301. This really needs to have grooves for that reason. Otherwise it wont look or appear any different than the standard. Value will increase down the road with this feature. If this doesn't look any different or someone isn't familiar with how this knife became it will just disappear. But, with grooves the story will continue just like it does for all of the older knives that had features not found today. 10 years from now someone will google grooved bolster 301 with two blades. This knife will pop up. If it looks the same as every other 301 then it wont be as special.
One man's opinion.

Do we have any idea what Buck will do for the grooves? It seems like we are all assuming they will look like the ones on the old 301 above but Buck could have a totally different idea!

...substantial increase in value down the road...

The second I sharpen it, that goes out the window. I buy knives to use, not to make money on. If I thought the grooves added anything, I'd be for them, $20 or no. I actually think they will detract from the overall aesthetic. That's my bottom line, not future value or uniqueness. I'm already annoyed by the long pull secondary for that reason. There's no need to gild a lily just because you can ...

I have a whole bunch of "user" knives I carry regularly. These forum knives are special, and not everyone is going to sharpen it and throw it in their pockets with their keys and change. I will be carrying it, but not abusing it.
I agree with it being very unique, and I like it rather is has groves (preferred) or not, it's not a knife you can just go down to Ace and pick up, or even get at the Buck custom shop.

I also will not be flipping or selling for a profit.

Just a great knife for a special purpose.

That and a few of the proponents seem to think that this will be the only 301 with grooved bolsters for a long time. If we’re paying for the design and tooling, who says that Buck won’t use it on future 301’s?

I really don't understand why some people want to keep changing votes? Vote for what YOU believe is best, stick to it and see what happens - or is it just some odd desire to be on the winning side....;):D

The prices quoted are ALL very reasonable, I've been buying Forum Knives since 08 and what with increased costs the current project still probably represents the best value ever offered even if it has grooves..... I have to pay for overseas shipping and import tax on top of this and I like the Forum Knife to be as special and unique as possible, not some bargain basement option..;):D:thumbsup:

Getting groove bolsters would make this a very special and unique piece. Every Buck folder I own has smooth bolsters and I'm hoping this one, with the upgraded steel and Elk, would earn the right to wear those grooves... IMO.

Well non grooved is crushing it right now. Grooved is going to have to make a comeback if it is to be chosen. I'm counting this as all grooved options vs all non grooved options.

There are those who won’t sell later, and those who want to see as many people who want one be able to get one, and those who aesthetically prefer non grooved. All laudable reasons. I’m with those who want something, usable, unique and that it will likely hold its’ value. As long as the decision is made for non-contrarian reasons, or that the savings isn’t just to get pine boxes, slips, or cardboard boxes, then que sera, sera. Still think grooved bolsters, which at this point we don’t know what they truely will look like, at a bargain price, is a long term wiser decicision.

My wallet says No Grooves but my heart says Grooves. Gotta go with my heart. I love grooved bolsters. But I am in regardless of what is chosen.
I'm with you... I don't care for the price jump but in 20 years when I'm passing the knife down to my son or godson I won't be thinking about that $20.

I voted grooves, then changed my vote to non grooved. I like grooves, I want grooves, I will have grooves on the one I carry and use every day - and I'll put them there myself if I have too.:D:eek:

BUT, I like the idea of buying several plain copies for less money, which is why I changed my vote to plain. For me, ending up with a couple decent slabs of this knobby elk stuff is much more important than any bolster adornment. And, keeping it cheap lets me get 4 for the price of 3 fancy ones!!:thumbsup:

It's already a very unique knife, built by (an incredibly picky) committee and somehow managed by the extraordinary commitment, dedication and DONATION of time and resources of skblades skblades . Frankly, I'm happy and thankful to be a tiny part by casting my votes & placing my order! This talk about "future value" comes across (to me) as a flipper mentality, which seems to downplay what the forum knife really represents: Community

Yeah, that was quite a comeback from yesterday. COME ON GROOVED!

It aint over till it's over.....:D The Early Bird catches the worm eh? Who in their right mind wants to get worms?:D:D:D:eek:

I changed my vote from smooth/box/pouch to smooth/ box to keep the smooth bolster option going because the smooth bolster camp was being split by the leather pouch.

If the heathens vote smooth, then I can accept that...... but for those of you who live without regrets, I am concerned this anti-groove decision may haunt you for the remainder of your days.

When groove nesting beetles have gone extinct, when your knife falls into the deep green river cause its so slippery without grooves, or heaven forbid - you perish because you cannot use the grooves to make an improvised spear..... You will have this one terrible regret. Kinda sad.

Onespdfrk, are the bolsters solid or hollow? Your genius idea of making a custom groove model only seems possible if bolsters solid?
