I'm sticking with grooves. It's what I would like to see.

The original budget estimate was "around $100". Well... $104 is "around $100". This was several weeks ago, and if you consider the annual knife as a precedence; you've had years of examples. There's been plenty of notice to expect the cost in this range. It should come as no surprise, and is actually a bargain at $104 for elk, nickel, grooves, and CPM154!

Don't misunderstand; I want everyone to buy one of these. But don't adjust your vote because someone would rather have this trinket than life sustaining nutrients. That's on them...

I agree, I'm sticking with the grooves vote for my preference. The knife is spectacular for $104. However, I completely understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, and if the non-groove wins, it won't hurt my feelings too much.

I know this was a while back but did we establish whether the sheepsfoot blade was going to be dropped for a smoother overall package? I know we talked about it but I can't remember the answer.

Good question Pomsbz. I don't remember that issue being settled. I would hope Buck could lower the sheepfoot to the level of the clip blade when closed. This would make a more comfortable knife when using the main blade.

skblades skblades , is this something you could look into for us? Thanks, -James

Some of us just really prefer the non-grooved bolsters.

I picked non-grooved with all of the options, but frankly, I'll be happy with any of the choices shown. Seems like we are approaching an end.

I choose grooved bolsters. This was a design feature way back and would like to see it again.

Which is great!
And some of us prefer the grooves.
And some who prefer grooves, but would accept either; change their votes so the folks who were taken by surprise when the cost came in ‘as estimated’, all of the sudden can’t afford it.

Point is, do you personally prefer grooves or not? Vote that way... Don’t vote for something you don’t want because it benefits someone else.

In my mind with grooves it is $4 over target, not $20 as others have interpreted it. We didn't hear this argument over any other aspect of this knife, steels, covers IIRC, so why invoke affordability now?

Vote for the bolsters you like.

If this knife doesn't have grooves, it will not separate itself from the standard 301. This really needs to have grooves for that reason. Otherwise it wont look or appear any different than the standard. Value will increase down the road with this feature. If this doesn't look any different or someone isn't familiar with how this knife became it will just disappear. But, with grooves the story will continue just like it does for all of the older knives that had features not found today. 10 years from now someone will google grooved bolster 301 with two blades. This knife will pop up. If it looks the same as every other 301 then it wont be as special.

Bugdoc Bugdoc I agree. If we are trying to get this knife into as many Knife Nutz hands we should throw out the current knife and go for a custom 301 with NS plain bolsters, 420hc & delrin. Oh wait, I can buy that now from Chuck Buck for 59 bucks. .

With or without bolster grooves, this 301 will be unlike any other . . . ever.

• clip and sheepfoot with long pulls
• modern powdered steel
• elk covers hand selected for color and texture
• no shield
• BFC Traditional tang stamp

Seems pretty DARNED unique to me. Any one of the above features would make it unique, but it has all five.

Imagine all 6 features.

Makael is correct that with grooves this will be a rare and unique custom shop knife, and without it will not be nearly as sought after or special.

By saving yourself 20 bucks today you are depriving yourself of not only the joy of a very rare and special tool to use, but also of substantial increase in value down the road.

It really is quite short sighted. I will buy one or two no matter what, but these concerns about 20 dollars seem bizarre for a tool that wil last your whole life.

Grooves on my GEC's. I'm not against grooves but they should be grooves not trenches.

I love knife bling. Stamped bolsters, reverse-frost etches, fancy bolsters, the whole deal. But to me, the slant bolsters don't need, and won't be improved by, the grooved bolster. Round bolsters look great threaded, and vertical bolsters look great threaded, but slant bolsters don't, to me. I'm in either way, but voted and prefer the non-grooved bolsters.
