2018 BF Traditional Knife

I have again talked to GEC and may have to enlist a couple others to assist in the unique components that my company cannot officially complete; but we can figure that out later.

So, if a choice of a Tidioute/Northfield single/double blade #14 would spark any interest as an option at this point - then consider it an option. My only requirement would be that the handles not be under control of Fish and Wildlife; but any bovine bone, micarta, most woods - would be fine. Any other details about the process, etc. can be worked out later.
I'm usually not this blunt here, but I think "that train has left the station."

Thanks knifeswapper knifeswapper .

I would be interested in a 14, if there's any other interest, as I feel like that is probably the ideal carry knife for my needs. That was probably my only target knife heading into this year.

Gotta agree, I mean if there are more than a handful people that want to poll by all means, do it, but I don't think the GEC will be chosen at this point.

To continue that analogy, I think a lot of folks are on that train because no one thought the train on the other track was also making its way toward the station, obscured by fog.:D

To be absolutely clear, I don't mean to downplay the "Buck fever." I've been active in the Buck poll thread and I'm excited about the prospect of a truly unique forum Buck -- but I would absolutely be interested in a GEC 14, and in having a similarly exciting discussion about one. :)

As you can imagine, a Buck is fine with me. But I was made aware of this thread a couple evenings ago and these things take time to think thru for someone that really likes to think thru issues. Now, all of a sudden, dealers and factories are accused of having abandoned Bladeforums - regardless of support or assistance in the past. Each person / business has to make their own decisions for their own reasons; and chiming in here with disparaging opinions have no positive impact.

So we can assume that the accomplishment of all of the other unique components is a fait accompli if folks decide that they want to pursue a GEC #14 as a 2018 Blade Forums knife? Right?

Bottom line: are you committing here and now to make the knife happen - gathering orders, shipping the knives, etc. - if folks decide that this is what they want?

If so, then my next question is . . . would there be any indicia on the tang and/or blade that this is a 2018 Blade Forums knife? Or is this just a mass order for GEC #14s?

TIA!

I'd be interested in the 14 IF it were somehow unusual. As I said earlier, if it could be made as a Sleeveboard with the Master Spear or Clip running from the large end and a Pen or Coping from the small end then it would certainly be a new pattern using an existing frame and the parts that GEC already make. It could also use a scale material that covers CK's concerns about exports of proscribed materials. so jigged bone, smooth bone or Osage Orange. I'd even forget about my stainless agitations:D But if it's going to be the usual 14 single blade or Jack, then it's not alluring enough for me I'm afraid.

Regards, Will

There are strains of his thread that are a bit reminiscent of the common "coming-of-age" movie plot in which the hapless and desperate nerd shamelessly throws himself at the indifferent and apathetic hot cheerleader, all while his very attractive, but sorta tomboy female friend, whom caters to his every whim with enthusiasm, is ignored and left wondering what else she could have done.....

"Secret Admirer" or "The Sure Thing?"

LOL.

At one time GEC could insert something into the schedule a month down the road and have tooling, etc. in place. Those days are over. In order to place an order for a specific configuration and hope to hit a specific date range - that must be thoughtfully planned and discussed with the factory well in advance. And even if it gets on the schedule, their operating margins would probably require them to run some of their own around it to keep production numbers reasonable. They accommodate smaller clubs with smaller orders - but those folks have it discussed much further in advance. So, slabs, shield, etch, and/or the tang stamp (which I think they already have) is probably the variables at this point. It is not their size or popularity, it is simply that the owner intends for the company to be around a long time and has his own ideas about the constraints that will accomplish that goal. He is very careful with growth, because with booms - come busts. He literally will not set the dealer price until the first knife rolls off the finishing tray so he knows every dime he has invested in it, thus he can set the exact margin on top that the company requires to stay in business. Quite honestly there are others on this forum much better at sweet-talking GEC; or it wouldn't have taken me 18 months to get my #77 SFO ran.

Is there any chance of a 44 gunstock forum knife?

I could ask, but am 90% sure that at this point the only knife on the schedule for the rest of the year that has capacity available in the time frame to make a decision - is the #14.

And in full disclosure - the #14's will have dealer add-on sfo's. So expect several slab/shield variations.

I believe any vote for GEC vs Buck would definitely be skewed by forum member who don't frequent this sub forum and frequent the Buck forum. I'm sure it's already happening. There is nothing wrong with that I guess...I just wanted to see a fair vote between the two companies before we started polling the masses for what pattern of knife from Buck we wanted to produce. Of course people are going to be whipped into a frenzy. They can see the light at the end of the tunnel which is obviously Buck because of the help from a gracious forum dealer. In the end, I will buy whatever knife is produced because I think it's an awesome tradition. But I just feel like the other company isn't getting a fair shake...I would still be interested to see what the voting outcome would be.

The hate between member and certain dealers is ridiculous.

Thanks for looking into this knifeswapper knifeswapper and spending your valuable time on this effort.

*End of rant...maybe LOL
