2018 GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

Great pics in this thread and in that link. It's also nice to hear about all of the new and old friendships.

A couple pics from the tents and a couple from the picnic, at the picnic we were still talking knives, Bill seems to really enjoy looking at nice examples of vintage knives. I also got the impression that he is hoping the tent sales and displays will increase in coming years, the Rendezvous could become even more special than it already is.

Ah! That link, and the pictures here really bring it all back!! I think there is a future in this new look at the Rendezvous. A lot of people came to T'ville in the past, because there was a Queen show also, but I think GEC holds its own as a place for knife enthusiasts to congregate. The tents were super!!
Nice places to hang out!!
Roger of the Maher and Grosh reprise had a topnotch collection of antiques to sell, as did Tom and a few others. I just got my delivery, so I have a few knives to scan and show, hopefully by tomorrow!

I've always found it amazing that considering this is the heart of traditional knife history, there are no big knife shows in this area. The yearly Queen show was nice, but it wasn't giant like the shows they have in Tennessee and Kentucky. Maybe this is an opportunity where the Rendezvous could turn into a full size knife show with 100+ tables of guys buying/selling/trading, and GEC could be the host and the star of the show.

I feel terrible I wasn’t able to make this one, being only 350 miles away! Most of my GEC knives were inherited from my grandfather, who used every knife he owned like a jackhammmer bit and prybar, so very few photoworthy examples. I’m glad everyone had a good time, and I hope this happens next year so I can pick up a few pristine examples!

I found a few more pictures from my time in Titusville. This one was from Friday evening after dinner. I can see William Howard, Jack, Jesse, Charlie, and Randy. View attachment 967228

These next few pictures are from the Drake Oil Well just outside of Titusville. This is where oil was first drilled for and found. I really liked the working replica of the steam engine that powered the oil pump.

Thanks for all the great photos my friend! :)

I hope it wears in a little Ron, it's a lovely-looking knife :)
Thanks Jack. I’m sure it will be fine! :)

I would walk to Pennsylvanian for a chance at a #74 in stainless and orange delrin.
I had two and my good friend wanted one! ;) What was I to? :D

Campbellclanman Campbellclanman and @paulhilborn Duncan and Paul we really missed you guys! :D

Augie Augie John and Donna thanks for all the great photos! :D

Oh man thank you Ron. I couldn’t make out if that was you in the Green shirt in Augies Photos? I think it was wasn’t it?

Charlie BRING IT!!!! Can’t wait to see your pictures of what you scooped up!

I think with a bit of advertising, the GEC Rendezvous tent/ Tables thing could go far, clever marketing has helped Bill so far.

Yes it was my friend! That was Pam and I talking and looking at Charlie’s table! :)

I just got caught up on this thread. Thanks to everyone who shared photos of the experience (and the knives!). I'm hoping to make it over there one year. I'm a lot closer now than I was back in AZ, but it'd still be quite a drive.

Someone (@L.H.S maybe?) mentioned and posted an "in use" photo of a #78 in glitter gold acrylic. I'd be curious to see more of those if anyone has photos; it has my interest piqued a bit (though I'm sure as a Rendesvous parts knife it's basically unobtanium :D).

its funny you say that, this was a huge joke in the shop because I was discussing with Christine Tucker the hideousness of the glitter gold. That will be the only parts knife I 'd bet money is still there actually. There were two blade 78s and 1 blade 78s made and quite a few left when I was last in the shop last saturday. The only other parts knife besides that was the micarta clip with bail and chain and thats probably gone.

The Rendezvous Specials (Parts knives) were truly special this year.

There were 4 Smooth Orange Bone 56’s. These had a spear blade and a houndstooth shield.

There were 12 Smooth Emerald bone 35’s. These were configured like the Churchill with the Orleans shield .

There were 9 Smooth Emerald bone 81’s. These were configured like the recent run of Bull Moose’s, but with the Orleans shield .

Not sure how many double and single bladed Glitter Gold 78’s knives there were. These did not have a shield.

Did I leave any out?

I think the Stag 26's were parts knives . At least the Tubes had " Special Factory Assembly " on them . The Tube Cap on mine did have the " S " on it though . The pull on my 26 was about a 9.9 on a 1 to 10 scale . I now have it down to about a 9

There were also various clip 15's, this smooth orange bone is 1 of 9.
