2018 John White MS Memorial BEST BOWIE Thread - FINALISTS SELECTED!

1-1 Sam
47-1 Jerry
I want to vote for them all but these two are just extraordinary in detail.

My picks:

48-3 Horrigan
48-2 Lisch
41-1 Fisk28
28-4 Quesenberry
46-2 Broadwell/Randall
47-2 Sobral Bros.
53-1 Petr Melicharek

I used a different criteria this year to pick MY personal favorite and that was to consider the overall talents of the maker. John Horrigan (48-3) is the sole author of everything you see in that photo. He made the steel, designed the knife, did the gold inlays and engraving and made the sheath.

A close second was my friend Dave Lisch (48-2). Dave is an absolute artist in hot steel. His ability to make a piece of steel do what HE wants it to amazes me.

Petr Melicharek 53-1) made what I think is one of the classiest knives I've ever seen. I don't even know how to describe my feeling for it. It just has the right amount of everything I like and none of the stuff that I don't like.

Paul

Since I missed that the White/Quesenberry dagger can’t be voted on, I’ll put in my vote for
19-1 Lin Rhea
19-3 Franco
28-2 Steve Filicietti

If Mike’s could have been voted on, the finished White dagger would have been the only choice.

THE KNIFE of all the past year for me was post #14, knife 6, Michal Komorovsky.

He'd be my only pick, if it weren't also for post #14, knife 1, Julian Antunes.

Just a bigassed Bowie that makes my pants tight. Love it.

I definitely went back and forth a number of times trying to settle with just 7. There are quite a few others I wish I could've also chosen, but like all years, I had to force myself to stop, otherwise I'd never settle on 7. So here are my votes for this year's Best Bowie in no particular order:

1)
Post 6 - #1 "LongRifle" - Curvy Southwest Stag Bowie

2) Post 12 - #2 Karl Andersen - Cowboy Bowie with Stag and "frosted" hardware.

3) Post 14 - #7 Steve Filicietti - Turkish/firestorm Bowie with "chameleon" colored hardware

4) Post 28 - #2 Steve Filiciatti - Explosion Bowie with case-hardened hardware

5) Post 45 - #3 Mike Quesenberry - Turkish Jelly Roll Twist Bowie

6) Post 47 - #1 Jerry Fisk - Dog Star Bowie

7) Post 48 - #1 Tad Lynch - "Simple", Sinister, Skull Bowie

Beautiful work by all of the makers!

BTW, thanks for helping to keep this awesome thread alive, Roger! Happy new years to everybody!

tough to distill it down to 7. 10+ knives made my final list, and from there it became less and less easy
14-1 Antunes
14-8 Klein
26-2 Ward
44-2 Parkinson
46-3 Quesenberry
48-2 Lisch
52-2 Desrosiers

My 7 finalists:

1-3: R. Andrews. Russ just knows how to make everything look 'right' this is no exception. Love the blade shape and the fittings.

12-1: K. Andersen. Awesome Damascus and wood handle.

14-5: S. Mawan. It takes a lot for me to like a coffin handle bowie. This one caught my eye immediately. Great lines and cool materials and color scheme.

19-3: D. Franco. One of my favorite makers. His lines are always right on to my eye. Excellent details and always killer Damascus patterns.

28-4: M. Quesenberry. Mike would get VERY serious consideration from me if I were asked to pick the best maker in the world today. He wrote the book on fit and finish. Nuff said.

52-2: A. DesRosiers. What a beast of a blade! Classed up further with nice ivory and exquisite details on an integral construction. Master indeed!

53-1: P. Melicharek. Really unique and different blade. Extremely well executed. Nice color scheme and wonderful details.

Thanks guys! Voting will stay open today - finalists will be announced at when-I-wake-up o'clock tomorrow morning, so get any last votes in!
