Thanks Mike for reiterating this point. I’m voting for jigged bone based on this point. If GEC says “any jigged bone done in the last 10 years or so”, then they mean just that. Speculation to the contrary is counterproductive.

The good looking jigged bone renditions that Darren has kindly photoshopped for us used the Chestnut Jigged bone from Charlie’s Campagna’s last Diamond Jack SFO from 2017.

For me, this version would be perfect. Well, maybe with a slightly smaller version of the shield.View attachment 1085380

I’m holding out hope for this too, Travis. The Lick Creek Orchard Gem would be another great jigging style on this pattern. Picture stolen from a member here... and it’s not loading... I tried!

I'm torn between smooth wood and jigged bone. I'd probably vote for jigged wood, but that ain't happening. The character of the knife calls for something grippier than smooth bone...unless Oily Creek Bone is considered smooth bone - then I'd vote for that. Alot of GEC's jigging over the last few years has been pretty similar, with a few exceptions. Going to just keep watching and pondering...

I went against the grain on this one, Smooth Bone! My collection mainly consists of wood, but this blade is screaming for some smooth bone.

Hmph.. I changed it to Jigged Bone. After seeing some of the examples I think it’d look pretty classy.

If you like random jigged bone then you should vote for jigged bone. It is not right to manipulate others through fear. It is plainly evident when someone is fear mongering, and, in my opinion, they have no credibility. All of the choices presented to us are good ones.

Obviously, GEC and Bill Howard can create beautiful random jigged bone that will not easily crack. Just because they produce a lot of patterned jigging does not mean that they cannot do random. All we have to do is order the knife with random jigging. This has been done with great results recently in Charlie’s SFO’s and the M & G Yankee Whittler. Examples abound in this thread and on the internet. It only took me a few minutes to find these to borrow.

Mike knows the type of random jigging we want. I am certain he could easily convey our wishes to Bill. The fact that GEC usually produces patterned jigging would make our random jigged Forum knife even more unique.

It seems like the time for everyone to consolidate their votes behind one of the two frontrunners.

Thank you @Travman for your excellent examples.

I agree with @Txjohn , do not take counsel from your fears.

Yes.. I like this example.

Very tough decision between smooth wood and jigged bone, but this jigging is the deal breaker for me if we can get it.

Some like it Wood
Some like it Bone
Some like it plastic but none to take home

I like bone randomly chopped no pattern at all
Sheepsfoot blade we’ll have a ball
Jigging here Jigging there Jigging every where
Random jigging the way to go
Jigged Bone randomly chopped!
Hurrah Hurrah

Harvest Orange beautiful bone
Be good - other bones leave them alone
What do we all want - beauty and sleek
individualistic not dark and bleak
Lets all cheer for harvest orange bone
Something we can all festively take home
Handsome and happy we all agree
All content with Harvest Orange bone.
Hip, hip, hooray!

I feel like I'm spamming, but the unobtainium GEC jigging pictures keep showing up so I gotta throw this out there :)

Picture Ebony, brushed satin shield, bolster, and blade.. stainless bolsters, liners, and pins. Slick - black and silver classic!

Vote smooth wood.. Doesn't mean your vote is for Ebony. We could end up with some awesome Snakewood, Desert Ironwood, Bloodwood...

What attracts me to the vintage knives with jigged bone is how classically beautiful the jigging is. GEC is certainly capable of producing some fine jigging. I guess I’ll go down with the ship, sticking with wood, because of the uncertainties with how the jigging will look. As for fears of Ebony being chosen, I say that the type of wood possibly available, could be amazing.

I'm in the bone camp, preferring a nice random jigging or saw cut. Smooth wood will be fine if chosen. Either way this is coming together nicely and will be a fantastic knife.

Seen more jigged bone I disliked than wood I disliked. I HATE "Dymondwood" (or anything similar), but I'm sure it won't be an option.

jigged seems too busy for this knife to my eye. it would be okay but sawcut would be much nicer. I picked smooth wood though as it just works.

smooth bone might be nice too depends on the color to me, but sawcut bone would be real good. is sawcut an option in the "jigged" category?
