How about a jigging pattern like they did on this JBF Champlin. This is antique walnut jigged bone I believe. Sorry for the not so great pic.

Those are beautiful. I love sawcut bone, but I have doubts about it winning the poll.
If jigged wins this round, I will definitely vote sawcut. Unless scratted is an option.
I’d probably prefer those to wood. It’s just all other forms of jigging I find unsightly.

Before you all dismiss Smooth Bone out of hand (tiny voice "because it's not on the winning side..";)) Have a word with yourself- Ivory Bone ages better than anything, choice Stag excepted. Furthermore-there has NOT been a Forum Knife in Smooth Bone, that in itself is incomprehensible.. Why not include Camel Bone for that matter?

Like it or loathe it?

And pulling ahead in the backstretch...its jigged bone! It has been wildly entertaining to read everyone's comments and persuasions to get folks to vote one way or the other. This will be an interesting race to the end I think. Will votes from the less popular options be persuaded to pick one of the front runners? Will folks stick to their original vote no matter what?

Agreed.

jbmonkey jbmonkey I especially agree with your comment on “jigged being to busy.” The Star of this knife is the blade.
I totally agree. I think it is why I prefer the mock-up of the nice jigged bone with the bar or swell shield versus the banner or something super fancy. If the blade and jigging are going to compete for attention, we don't want the shield getting in the way. Conversely, the smooth options look outstanding with the banner or fancier shields.

I've been conducting an experiment, switching my vote periodically to 2nd in the horse race, assuming people will support the laggard. Thus far, my theory has proven right. Definitely no internal validity concerns in this study design. I'll be presenting this to my research class as a perfect example of causality in social science. Thank you all for your participation in this study, the consent is in the BF ToS, I assure you.

Here's something else from the House of Dissent;) Quite few people have been barking about jigged bone being lacklustre and hordes of people will sell their Forum Knives afterwards because of it. Nonsense, you can say the same about ANY natural material, just think Antler, it all varies and this holds for Ebony. A lot of people start moaning about lighter streaks in it, they dislike Ebony that's not Jet Black. I have a 56 in Ebony with chocolate colour streaks in it, love it, but many turn their noses up at it and when I was thinking about selling it a Forumite told me it could not possibly be Ebony because it had brown in it.....:poop::D

Black & White Ebony would be a wonderful idea but GEC has never done it, I think it's likely to be costly too.

My prediction, Ebony it will be. Pedestrian compared to burl.

If only your prediction was true. It looks like jigged bone is walking away with the peoples’ choice.

if donkey toenail was a choice it would be number 1.
it is sad that our overlords feel the need to rig everything.

Is random jigging simply too difficult to do consistently? Seems like it's much preferred to the symmetrical patterns, yet GEC doesn't offer it very often. The jigging on many old knives is stunning.

Looks like jigged bone pulled ahead of smooth wood. I hope we don't end up with sawcut. IMO it's not aesthetically pleasing.
