I'm going from what Mike said in the very first post in this thread (bolded, italicized, underlined, and enlarged to show texture):

My apologies. Didn’t read since it was further edited. A crying shame at the requirements IMHO. My next comment is probably not appropriate for this thread, but it’s this kind of stuff that has made me stop buying GEC almost altogether. I’m in for this years knife though.

Not sure why the bolsters and shields have to be brushed but it is what it is , but these were not . Desert Ironwood

With a little different lighting

I bought these 92's in 2016 : Stag and 2 Jobillos . I gifted the lower one and still have the darker one . It is some pretty nice wood . Not my favorite , but pretty nice .

Wow. Nice one Harry. That lighter Jobillo is the cat’s pyjamas. Here is my best ironwood

OK, have the response back from GEC on possible wood types. The "No" responses had reasons all the way from "too soft" to "no good sources left".

Yes's
African Blackwood
Bocote
Bloodwood
Ebony
Kingwood
Jobillo - Bolster/Shield finish must be brushed
Desert Ironwood - Bolster/Shield finish must be brushed
Osage Orange - Bolster/Shield finish must be brushed
No's
Snakewood - No
Oil Sucker Rod - No
Walnut - No
American Cherry - No
Wormy Chestnut - No
Palo Santos - No
Birds Eye Maple - No
Pine - No
Bog Oak - No
Olive - No
Beer Barrel Oak - No
Maybe's
Che Chen - Subject to new availability.
Cocobolo - Subject to new availability of CITES number supplier, not responsible for delivery
Brazilian Rosewood - Subject to new availability of CITES number supplier, not responsible for delivery
East Indian Rosewood - Subject to new availability of CITES number supplier, not responsible for delivery

Since the poll is limited to 10 options, I left off the two with "Rosewood" in their name because they have been found to get confiscated way more often by international dealers.

General questions should go back to the Core thread.

This could be just because this is the forum knife, but as a whole, this is just depressing.

I was hoping that you would show that one Taylor . Now people have plainly seen that they can get Black colored covers with streaks of different color black or something with some character . There are no guarantees on getting Ironwood with Character but there is a guarantee that the black ones will have

I have envisioned this knife in black since the beginning, so I’m going with Blackwood. If desert ironwood wins I will not be disappointed. Everything I’ve seen in that looks good and the brushed bolsters are actually appealing to me, but I’m sticking with Blackwood.

If you’re going to use the knife, the finish on the bolsters doesn’t really matter, does it? They will end up the same either way I would think.

I think brushed bolsters and shield are appealing on this knife. Too bad we can't have brushed with African Blackwood. If Ironwood wins, the brushed bolsters and shield and bonuses for me.

Sticking with African Blackwood with reverse Orleans shield for now. Prefer the diamond shield but looks like that won't happen.

Come over to Team Ironwood and get the brushed bolsters and shield that you really want! :D
