My apologies. Didn’t read since it was further edited. A crying shame at the requirements IMHO. My next comment is probably not appropriate for this thread, but it’s this kind of stuff that has made me stop buying GEC almost altogether. I’m in for this years knife though.

No worries! It’s a long thread.

Brushed isn’t too bad if that’s what turns out. Polishing can be done, and I’m sure GEC has a reasonable reason for their options, even if it won’t satisfy everyone.

Amazing how things change over 24 hours, interesting to see ironwood in the lead since I last checked in. I believe it was in third before.

I'm sticking with bloodwood for the entire vote. But between Blackwood, bloodwood, or ironwood, I don't think anyone will lose.

Shaping up to be a close 3 Wood Race it appears .

Ideally, I'd like Pile side one wood, Mark another....that's different :D;)

A comparison shot

Shows how African blackwood can beat ebony for blackness (although ebony has its classic charm) and how some woods take a better polish than others. I would be very happy with any of these, on this 25 frame.

Clem Ironwood

His hoss went dead and his mule went lame
And he lost four knives in a poker game.
A black slabbed Forum knife showed up on a summers day
And enraged his visitors from across the bay

They screamed and shouted “What can we do?”
Clem Ironwood scared in true bad luck replied
We’ll throw that Darth Vader in ocean blue
Rid of pest he professed never again will I suffer and stew

Clem Ironwood lives now in harmony hue
No molestations in his view
His future assured with Blade Forum Ironwood knife
Another step towards a perfect life

Mippity Dippity Flipity Flop - GEC I like em a lot

I really like Desert Ironwood, but the variances can be stark and not necessarily in a good way depending on your preference...

I have yet to see an Ironwood whaler I didn't think looked fantastic. I actually like the brushed hardware too. Not my first choice, that belongs to AB for now but I would be very happy with ironwoon if it wins.

Ironwood= Some will be thrilled, some disappointed. At least there is a shot at something good, I guess. Ironwood is prone to inclusions that cannot be seen until final finishing. GEC turns most with inclusions into 'seconds" so there will be some loss. A good second choice behind Blackwood, though.;) Far better than Bloodwood! imo

Man, to be honest, I think I’d rather see a deep, dark, rich African black wood compared to some of the desert ironwood I just googled. I guess you can’t really bet on it being the nice ironwood with great grain.
I was initially ABW, then Blood, then iron... who knows where I’ll end up in a few days!

Still sticking with African Blackwood/Ebony, as these materials age they can get a really nice deep black sheen to them, hopefully the Ebony voters will switch over to AB. Not worried about brass liners or pins, if you use the knife the brass will darken.
Here is an original Walden Jumbo Jack, 4", Ebony with brass pins and liners, still classy at over 100 years old. I think this Forum Knife is going to be a stunner, maybe the best one yet.

I'm happy to see this coming down to Blackwood and Ironwood. Those would be my top two choices for this knife.
I'm probably in the minority, but if Ironwood wins I'm going to hope I get a more plain looking cover. If I get one with a lot of swirls and contrast, I'll probably trade with somebody that wanted a more exciting example. I find beauty in simplicity.
