I'm happy to see this coming down to Blackwood and Ironwood. Those would be my top two choices for this knife.
I'm probably in the minority, but if Ironwood wins I'm going to hope I get a more plain looking cover. If I get one with a lot of swirls and contrast, I'll probably trade with somebody that wanted a more exciting example. I find beauty in simplicity.
I'm feeling the same way. Maybe some more of the blackwood voters will be willing to trade for the darkest examples of ironwood. What ever is decided, I hope the maximum possible number of people are happy. (you can't please everyone)

And I'm not even upset about the brushed finish hardware. I'm curious what it'll look like, and I'm pretty sure I can polish it if I don't like it.

My preference is for ebony or African blackwood (I voted for the latter because ebony has no chance):

This is GEC ebony.

But desert ironwood would be my choice after the black slabs:

I think ironwood is just out-of-this-world beautiful. Wouldn't complain too much if this beats the black woods.

For what it's worth I don't like the brushed bolsters at all, the Whalers with brushed bolsters were coming out of the tube with marks in them, don't want anything that marks up that easy and I don't want to polish them myself, this is enough to keep me from voting for ironwood.

What the heck happened yesterday afternoon? I got busy with festivities and check in to see both AB and ironwood blast past bloodwood. I am not complaining one bit just in awe that it happened. I guess that koa slab will be saved for another knife now :D

Ironwood and brushed finish from the last #14 run.
It's a more plain example of the wood, which is why I saved the picture. :D
Hmmm...o_O Well, I'm sure I can polish it up.

:D Thanks for the picture. The shield looks okay to me, but the bolsters are odd. I'm used to seeing them either shiny-new, or randomly scratched with use. No biggie, mine will be a user so it'll get all scratched up eventually.

True about those brushed bolsters being scratched. I got a 99 brand new from a retailer and it looked like it was used because the brushed bolsters were so beat up.

Thanks guys. Since they sliced and diced my gums and cheeks, my common sense and read what's before me is out of whack. Dang, this is a long poll huh?

I've had three Ironwood knives thus far. As much as I like Ironwood...it is the only option of the three leading choices that gives me reason to wonder if I'm going to get a good example or not. Unless I get to pick one out myself (or have a dealer do it for me), I'm just not inclined to go there :thumbsup::thumbsup: I can already hear the disappointing posts after folks get theirs and it isn't what they hoped. Perhaps that will get drowned out by those who got a nice example...who knows. Just my opinion.

cigarrodog cigarrodog - your ironwood example is EXCEPTIONAL, especially photographed so beautifully.

NOT LIKELY that there would be more than 2 (if that many) as beautiful in any pile of knives. You are mesmerizing us with false hope. :(

If the Ebony voters switch to AB

Gonna be a long 2 more days :D
