2019 GEC 29 Humpback/Stockyard Whittler Thread

Well, don’t mean to “P” on the parade here. I definitely wanted to check my Osage when I got home, and it was also reversed. Seems to be the Osage Orange ones unless I’m wrong. Maybe a lot more that were done that day.

Not all mine is correct.

It’s ok I’ll just pull mine out of the safe and put it back on the fondling and envelope opening duty page :D
Btw is there a way to delete your post :p we don’t want to much “p” around here :D
All kidding a side I think it’s pretty cool and I still think only a handful of these are blessed with reverse lettering
All the Osage I’ve seen online were in the correct format. So the parade will continue. So far we have 3 out of only 100’s I’m sure

As silly as it seems, if there were only a few mistakenly reversed PPP etches, they may be worth a premium some day, but probably only if kept pristine. It would be interesting to email or call GEC to find out if they know how many were reversed.

Great minds Think a like Jeff
Those were my exact thoughts.
I’d be curious also how many and or if Gec was even aware of it .
BTW I’m still enjoying that beautiful Queen #9 sporting D2 you were kind enough to give to me in that GAW .
Thank you I’m enjoying it so much !

My Osage still has the greatest W&T and snap both open and closed. I think all of them are really attractive. Like a 10 of 10 actually and I consider them even. However if I had to rate the ones I have based solely on looks, it'd be
•Blood Red Jigged Bone
•Bloodwood
•Ebony
•Osage

I'm not even a fan of red. I really like the Ebony because its so dark.

I didn't even want one of these danged knife patterns. Lol

I looked thru a number of dealers pics & only saw one with the reverse etch pictured.

For those with the new stag handles, how aggressive is the texture of the stag? Would it be comfortable for actual whittling or do you see the stag creating some hot spots after extended use?

The texture is fairly aggressive, at least on mine. Based on pictures here the pattern seems very variable as well, which could make comfort more of a roll of the dice.

I would try one of the smoother finishes, like Osage or Bloodwood.

My Stag arrived yesterday, quite thrilled with it:thumbsup:

That's a beaut, Paul- congrats!!!

Yeah, I received a stock notification from a retailer earlier tonight, stating stag examples were up for grabs. I jumped on one out of impulse. Now I need to decide on which to keep...the stag UN-X-LD or my Osage. I will have two knives from the same run but I don't prefer to own knives I won't put to use.

I only have duplicates of two other GEC knives...the 81 bull moose and the 78 American jack. Both of those are also stag covered. I don't carry them because they're so pretty but can't seem to divest myself of either. I hope history isn't repeating itself here!
