2019 GEC 86 Oil Field Jack and Forum Knife Picture Thread

Chocolate Almond Oh My !

Check all GEC web-sights , #86 Oil Field Jacks are up ! Seek and yea shall find ! My second Oily Creek bone #86 came in today. My #86 Bloodwood will come in soon.

I was real interested in the Bloodwood #86. As soon as I saw the picture of the knife, I looked at Barry's site... It appears to be sold out. I give up. Not playing this game any more. I have more GEC's than I will EVER use already. No plans to sell any. They will probably get sold in a garage sale after I die for a few dollars each. I won't know; I'll be dead.

Just found out about GEC knives after getting back into traditional folders this last month. Was lucky enough to snag a bloodwood 86 in addition to a really nice stag 92. These are really nice knives, and I appreciate the craftsmanship - something my kids can have one day. I enjoy being updated on the new productions on this forum, it's very informative!

It wasn't a game. You could have signed up for email alerts. He sent out an email right when they were listed. They wrre in stock for an hour and fifteen minutes after that. The 93s were gone in seconds.
This is a popular pattern, but if you watched GECs site as they were made, looked around a few days after they were in stock sevplaces, many for days. Almost every dealer has email alerts. You can still get some micarta and oil sucker rod wood even now. Collectorknives had a reserve list over a month ago, and it filled up slowly enough to give everyone a chance to be guaranteed a knife when they were made.

Game? It is a game. I don't work that way. Bloodwood is the only material that appealed to me at this time. I do not do collector knives reserves. I will not go to this much trouble to spend my money for a knife I don't even need.

You see.... I simply don't care enough to go through reserves or any such pre-order process. No big thing. Saved myself over $100.

The only knife I sign up ahead of time and without actually seeing a picture of a finished knife is the forum knife.

I understand that.... I will wait for something else. Either another material that catches my interest or another knife that is coming up in the future. I have no true issue about this. This writing about it is making a much bigger deal out of it than I feel it merits. It really doesn't bother me that Barry only had 100 knives made.

Most of my traditional knife purchases are impulse buys.... I see it, I like it, I buy it. That is generally how it works for me. I don't plan for these things ahead of time.

I've gotta say I've got some sympathy with 22-rimfire. I managed to get lucky and find an 86 Oil Sucker Wood and I really like it. But was the first GEC I've bought since '11--I didn't realize how competitive the market had gotten. I would have loved to have a bloodwood version, and I can't think if a knife I'd rather have than Charlie Waynorth's ebony 86, but I don't have the time or inclination to devote to what it takes to being in the right place at the right time. I don't begrudge those that are willing to do it, but it's still a bit frustrating.

I spend too much of my life starting at glowing rectangle as it is!

I didn't want the wrench shield or I don't think I want it...... The beaver shield is another that I don't care for on other models. Not going to worry about it in the least.

What appeals to me about the two blade #86 is that it is very similar to a Case jack knife I used for years when I was younger. That particular Case was the second Case knife I owned growing up and still have it in my pile. Field dressed a number of whitetails with it.
