Not sure, GEC have used it on the #25, #92, and #79. Maybe others. rare enough to be cool, but not so rare that GEC may baulk at the suggestion

Hello Rey!, does this look familiar ?? View attachment 1076921

I interpreted Rachels question as has the Buck Sub-Forum here at Blade Forums ever been the point of origination of the annual, sponsored, traditional knife. Not with the Blade Forums tang stamp - but several of SK Blades limited run Buck Knives have been designed via polls on the Buck sub-forum (such as we had last year when the 301 you pictured was designed). OH

All this talk about the ineffectiveness of the blade profile. I am not convinced. Its a fairly common profile for a hard use rigging knife.

Here are some examples of a similar blade used on sailors knives

There is one more thing to add. The #86 should be made in mahogany (jobillo wood). It would be perfect.

The UK Army certainly put it to good use.

thanks Camillus Camillus ....that"s mahogany? Class.
Fact is we've had Ebony before -2010.
We have had woods, bones and antlers...and micartas...
I'm for wood with this one......unless of course Warthog Ivory comes up...LOL.. my only real problem at this point is ...apart from relocating residence in March... the Knifeswapper OS shipping conundrum...Not that I'm worried about that....being just about to move to an even further far flung end of the Empire...

Food for thought..
Bone can be dyed, jigged, carved to choice. It is flexible that way.No doubt functional and no doubt solid.
Wood is staid..the grain ..the chatoyance(:rolleyes:o_O)..the figuring- are things that Nature gives.....not always Miss Universe but always beautiful...the strength.

Well yes, I have one of those. (me, too!) It's a Traditional Forum Knife made by Buck. :)

Yes, that's what I meant. I always thought this was the "Traditional forum knife" but maybe it's the "traditional Forum Knife"
Has the Buck Forum ever hosted a Bladeforums knife? Perhaps in the future, the other subfoums should take turns hosting an official forum knife. Next year a Buck, after that Spyderco, or perhaps the Kitchen Cutlery or Multi-tool forums could take a turn as host. I'd buy a Bladeforums stamped kitchen knife.

Thanks Meako, technically it is jobillo wood, which is often referred to as being similar in appearance to mahogany. I have a #92 in jobillo and I like it a lot.

The other reason to go with wood is weight. It will make a difference on a knife this size.

Although ebony would look good too, there is always the variation in color which many don’t prefer. Desert ironwood, bocote and cocobolo etc all have their pros and cons but are sometimes too busy or decorative.

Jobillo has a look that fits the function and size of this knife, and rigging knives generally.

I made a promise to all fellow porcheans during last year's process that I would vote ram's horn if it came up as an option. Not the best choice if this becomes some sort of rigging knife, but I plan to stick to it.

Was just thinking, will this sabre grind have a beveled edge? If not, that would be pretty cool, sort of a semi-scandi grind.

GEC doesn’t use any kind of horn anymore.
