Would the #23 fit in a Buck 110 belt pouch? Thought I read something about that earlier
7 and 7.5 pulls ! I will be using my feet and a CASE XX blade pick to open this #23 bear trap. I just paid my invoice on the Brazilian Cherry-wood #23 Pioneer Trapper. I have been wanting a #23 for two years. I pussy footed on two Shrade #23 Trappers , last year. I got #23LLs , SFO #23s , and Club knives on pre-order. I am so excited.
Like a pig to mud. Here is one on a 110 lightweight sheath.
Good question. The pen blade on my 46 has to be around a 9, verges on being a nail breaker. It’s a true bear trap, not a fan of this strong of a pull. I hope the 23s a bit more user friendly.
Do the #23 Pioneer Trappers come with a half stop ? I sure hope so , I am going to have to be real careful with these knives.
Yes, square tangs and half stops. It's part of why the pulls are so strong (along with the stiff springs).
How would you say the weight and thickness compares between these two?
It's a Two blade vs. a Single blade... I'd say the #23 is going to be much thicker and heavier.
I just weighted my #23 and it was 6.0 ounces. I don't own a #97 to weigh the differences
@Onearmbladenut, you will have to be extremely careful! I have a 23 from'08 i believe and before I let somebody else open it I tell them they better be committed and follow through. I love it but its not for some people.
The 23 is thicker, for sure. Not a lot, but I wouldn’t call it insignificant, either. Of course, taller front to back as well.
My kitchen scale has the 23 at 171 grams, just over 6 ounces, to 141 grams or just over 5 ounces for the 97.
For those who were not able to pre-order, the Jigged Brazilian Cherry trappers are available at some retailers. I just received an in-stock e-mail from DLT. And I couldn't resist and placed an order.
Just went fishin in the same pond!
That makes two 23's on the way, one micarta, the other wood.
My first 23 and I have to say it is an impressive knife. Big, beautiful and a bear trap! Perhaps not an everyday EDC but it sure is a handful of fun. Build quality appears outstanding.
Here is a pic next to one of my favorite large knives, the Case Tony Bose designed Panama Trapper. 23 is thicker, stouter. Pull on the Panama is 5-6 compared to the 23’s 8ish
A handsome pair !!!
I am probably in the minority but I am happy to see that they are putting the UNXLD Shield on the Antique Autumn Natural Bone .
I'm thinking of one of the unxld knives as well.
Only other knife I have with that shield is a stag 54 cigar whittler.
I agree...it’s classic Northfield. I’d rather see the UNXLD shield over the novelty shields.
